Because in reality it would mean getting up out of my seat, making everybody else in my row get up also so that I could get past them. Climbing up or down several rows to go and find a steward and tell him 'excuse me mate, but that bloke 15 rows up and 25 seats to the left just made a racist comment'. Call me slack / indifferent / colluding whatever, but I probably wouldn't do that.

    Would you ?

You can't tell them during the break, or after the game?

    Yes.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but have you actually ever been to a football match ? Do you realise what it's like being in a crowd of 60,000 people ? At Half time, people are streaming in and out of the exits to the concourses, to the toilets, bars and food stalls; going in all directions and trying not to get in each other's way. The Stewards pretty much oversee crowd control and make sure people know where they going and how to get back to their seats. At Full time it's even worse, everybody just wants to get out of the ground as quickly as they can.

If some clown made a racist remark during the game, do you think he's still going to be in his seat by the time somebody had found a steward, told him what was said, pointed in the general direction as to where he was sitting ? Logistically it's neigh on impossible to report individual culprits unless the stewards are within earshot and can get to the offender in a timely manner.

Most clubs also have a policy of 'no foul or abusive language' and will threaten ejection for offenders, but do you think that is upheld ? To effectively enforce these rules you would have to have a steward placed on each end of each row constantly monitoring people's language and behaviour. I'm sorry Murray, whilst I agree with your general sentiment, the practicality of enforcing it is logistically unfeasible

Take a sneaky pic on your phone if the opportunity arises.

That way you could do so after game. Then the club cam decide whether to pursue. I get what you mean about finding a steward mid game to report it. Far to much effort involved and chances are nothing will be done.

It's actually not as hard as you think.
Each seat is sold and a record of the buyer is kept, therefore if a complaint is is received giving seat/block number the club are obliged to investigate, remember also there are something like 60+ CCTV cameras at the Emirates, the state of the art police control room have always boasted they can zoom into every seat in the ground and do face recognition.
The club have suspended season tickets from owners for 'selling' to others (at face value I might add !) when the owner is unable to attend, they sure as hell could find a serial racist/homophobic and take his/her ticket away - I got thrown out the ground 5 years ago for smoking in the stairwell and my mate received a letter from the club warning that any repeat and his season ticket would be confiscated !

Reality is that a large percentage of fans are not upset by derogitory comments relating to race, sex, age, weight etc, many football fans still consider it acceptable banter, but let's get it into perspective, anyone throwing a banana woudl I'm sure be identified immediately and banned for life....

If you were really in a situation where you couldn't reach a steward due to the density of people, then we'd have a few more concerns than racist chants. That'd be another Hillsborough waiting to happen if that was reality.

What you're really saying (as you pointed out in the previous post) is that you don't want to go to the effort of going through some people to get to a steward to report it. That is a ****ing awful excuse, mate.

Somebody's already got there, but do you really think football stadiums are free-for-alls with nobody having brought tickets, nobody having designated seats, and no CCTV cameras being able to identify people? If somebody throws a coin, then they can identify them. If you report who's doing something, they'll be able to identify them.

Sorry mate ... but it sounds like you haven't been to a football match if you think they can't identify people in the stadiums.

Nope. You know why? Because nobody bothers to kick up enough fuss about it happening, and since they're getting your money it's not in their best interest to start ejecting their customers. Basically, not enough people care enough (like you) to report these things, so they just keep on happening.

Effectively, the kind of apathy of "meh, racism is important and all, but having to go over there and talk to someone to report it? That's long, man" is the kind of attitude which allows racism and homophobia to flourish. Sorry mate, but I think you're part of the problem here.

Sorry Murray, but your response tells me that you don't actually know what it's like inside a football stadium. People can be identified by CCTV and yes seat blocks and numbers are traceable, but this is generally used retrospectively when missiles are thrown or when serious disorder breaks out. They generally don't pick up on people shouting 'n****r' or 'queer' etc. The reality is if you're sitting several rows away from somebody shouting racist / homophobic comments, you're unlikely to know what seat number he is sitting in and if you wait until HT to go and find a steward, then the offender is unlikely to still be in his seat. Like I said, if it happens next to you or close to a steward then it's easier to address, but I don't think you actually understand what the experience of being in a stadium is like.

You might call me complicit, but I think you are naive. I find your judgement of me in this situation condescending and offensive .... right, where's the nearest steward ?

Well I dont think either of you know what its like inside a football stadium..........Cos you're both ass clowns! <laugh>

Seriously though, if I pay £43 per head to see a game, I am gonna watch the game, not spend half my time hunting down stewards because some ****tard likes to scream out naughty words.

Too right. I don't understand what the argument is about. By all means if you notice something say something or mention it to a steward, but actively going out of your way whilst enjoying a day out to tell on the guy saying bad words? It just seems like over the top nannying.

Well I've seen a picture of you mate, so if I saw you at a game I'd be reporting you the nearest steward for your face causing an offence

If any of you c**ts think it's 'lazy' not to get up 20 times game to let somebody who's sitting in your row past, then I suggest you go and watch a game with Cym. He's up and down like a f**ing Yo-Yo: off to the bog, sneaking off for ***, or going to stretch his legs.

I'm surprised nobody has reported him to a steward yet <whistle>

Surely at his age his joints are going and he struggles to move much? Isn't that why he is always on here? :p
