Name me another team.... So i did. Thread contribution at work. I even undersold it as diego pointed out. 10 players. Not 7.
So much for your great academy - Rooney signed from Everton for epic money - £25m in 2004 Jones signed from Blackburn for £16.5m a very hefty fee for a teenager in 2011. Smalling signed from Fulham for £10m in 2010. In fact you look at the previous 15 years, and besides the 'class of 92' and a some squad players, all your Brit players have been bought for huge amounts - Ferdinand (Transfer record), Carrick (£20m in 2006), young (£20m in 2011), rooney (Transfer record for youngster), jones, Hargreaves (£17m in 2007), Compared to your academy players welbeck, cleverly, evans, fletcher - who are hardly key players... And Shaw signed for a huge transfer fee - £25m in 2014
shame we didn't sell you a defender as you ****ing need one..... actually you tried to buy one but he rejected you lol
Hahahaha. Wait. Hahahahaha. Academy? Rooney - Everton Smalling - Maidstone Jones - Blackburn Carrick - West Ham Shaw - Saints Whoever the hell Blackett & Wilson are in relation to England players I have no idea. If you're going to include the likes of them, you might remember we have this young lad playing for Milton Keynes called Benik Afobe, scored a couple in a league cup game against some sh*t premier league team if i remember correctly. Welbeck aside, who you cast aside to pay £1mill / month for a loan striker you don't need, you have no academy players in the current squad.
He was that chump who hacked down the Leicester striker and got sent off, just before they banged in their 4th goal.
Yeah but Man U is always lauded for bringing through English/British players - yet the majority haven't just been brought in from other clubs academies - they've been bought for huge amounts from other clubs as soon as they break into the 1st team. They haven't really brought through that many youngsters since the early 90s - Oshea, Evans, Cleverly, Welbeck spring to mind but hardly any amazing players...
Erm yeh.... Have a look round tge football league and premier league. One club has more of its acadamy players playing professional football than any other. While superstars are rare, premier league quality players are numerous. Its easier to name the teams who dont have one of outr players. Only ones i am certain about are chelsea, city and liverpool.
Yeh. Im refering to them being the only 3 clubs i know for certain dont have a former united acadamy player.
Anyway in terms of giving youth a chance. You have to go back, way back, beyong cyms year of birth and before world war 2 for the last time united didnt have an acadamy/youth player in the match day squad. 1937. Not signed or pinched. Brought through the acadamy.
I'm pleased we have got such a strong British contingent in the team at the moment. British players at the big clubs tend to become very passionate and emotionally connected to there clubs. Previously we built around a core of young foreign players who bailed as soon as the money came calling. The loyalty and drive to play for the club wasn't there. I think this core of British players will change that and bring us a new found ambition and togetherness as a team.
