Saints haven't won away against Arsenal since November 1987. This time though its going to be different. We go to the Emirates on the back of a four game winning run with confidence sky high. Arsenal on the other hand have a defensive injury crisis. Add to that the fact Wenger has to juggle the demands of CL football which means he will almost certainly play a reserve side and Saints have a superb chance of progressing into the next round. Should be a great atmosphere with Saints cheered on by 5000 travelling fans. JWP and Maya went off injured on Saturday so are probably unlikely to figure but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mane can do. Ron will hopefully play his strongest side and I'd go with Fraser Clyne Fonte Gardos Bertrand Wanyama Morgan Tadic Davis Mane Pelle Subs KD Toby Targett Reed Cork Long Mayuka Make no mistake this will still be a hard game. Wengers second teams have had a good record in the competition in the last few years and we will have to be at our best. Lets keep the winning run going. 2-1 to the Saints. COYR!
I would've loved for us to have a chance to give another youngster like Targett a run out but we shouldnt risk it in this game. Even a depleted gunners have alot of quality going forward. I think we'll win it though...their back line is absolutely wrecked and this will be their 2nd midweek fixture in a row. 2-1 saints.
I would have Cork in for Davis personally but pretty much be delighted to see this team run out at the Emirates. Their second string attacking midfield still looks pretty good though and we will need to be really on our game
The two matches selected for Sky are PL vs League club...didn't we always moan if they selected matches involving two PL clubs?
Arsenal will likely field a full second string team or close to it. Players like Campbell, podolski, diaby, rosicky will probably get game time and our back line is likely to feature one or two youth players. Bellerin (ex barca youth rb), chambers or Hayden may well find themselves in the team though we will have to wait and see. I expect you to be able to score against us, but i expect us to score a couple as well. Our back up attacking players are still of a good quality.
However good back up players are, they often come unstuck against a side playing their first team. Koeman will play a strong side, let's hope he doesn't decide to tinker.
Be interesting to see what team MP puts out against Forest in the televised game...Spurs fans won't be happy if they lose that one.
Arsenal v Southampton REFEREE - KEITH STROUD Assistants :- Nigel Lugg and Alan Young. : Fourth Official :- Keith Hill
This is my desired team, basing on the injury too. Forster Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett Wanyama, Davis, Morgan Tadic, Pelle, Long Subs Davis, Yoshida, Bertrand, Cork, Reed, Mane, Mcqueen
Maybe wait for an easier FA cup match to give Targett a start? It's not as if Bertrand needs a break, he's bursting with energy.
Would love to give Clyne a rest here. Is the game sold out or just the away end? Be very surprised if Arsenal sell out the home tickets
