I'd not go 352 I would take a cb and play him like a donkey at dm however.... Think any are half capable of that??? It's safe to say the only ares we've enough players is there so put one in as a dm to kick and harass high up. Drop Gerrard for that player and all! Make it 451 with markovic and sterling wide in the next game and pack in the other two slots with Lucas and Henderson Simple as that The idea is body on cm line not defence line
Nah..... 4-5-1 all the way 1-0 sturridge score lines. Play sterling wide right and markovic wide left And frankly if he can't cut it push Moreno to lw and bring in Enrique at lb we need to pack it out and get possession of the ball and midfield area
Right I think this is it Mingolet Manquillo Skertl sahko Enrique Sterling lucas(Allen) lovern Henderson Moreno Badontelly(sturridge) Bring in those in brackets when they are fit Gerrard can come in when available/ cup games but use sparingly
i thin ksahko played there for psg MAYBE... but i felt if someone like lovern who likes to attack stuff and run about the place could try it it might be interesting. i thought that with einrique being only back he could be protected lsighty and moreno's pace and willingness to run and shoot being exploited on the left. we coudl bring in markovic for enrique or moreno or lallana for that matter. my sole theory is win the midfield area with busy players but this won't fix sloppy sloppy silly **** goals like v west ham.
Alternative idea! Gerrard in CB. Hear me through here. Our defense has been poor, unbalanced, poor playing the ball and seriously lacks leadership and organisation. Enter our captain, Steven Gerrard. Rodgers once mention the idea of playing Gerrard as a 'number 2 centre back' against teams that park the bus. A ball playing CB who can build from the back when you dont need to man marking CB's. But I'm talking about Gerrard partnering Lovren or Skrtel at the back. First I will list the obvious benefits: He will be vocal He will lead He will organize He is strong in a tackle He is good in the air His passing will be neat His passing range varied He will play the ball with his head up When we are in possession I see little fault in this, and I think it can work defensively to. Sure Gerrard is not the quickest or most mobile any more. But neither was Carragher and he did just fine. I really feel we need that leader at the back. Also, with Lucas or Can in front of him the defense will have much better cover. A midfield of Lucas, Henderson and Allen was awesome v Spurs last season. Mignolet Manquillo Skrtel Gerrard Moreno Lucas Henderson Allen Sterling Balotelli Sturridge Could this give us the leadership at the back that we need?
Where to start... He's never played there before. Carragher wasn't quick but he'd played 15 years in the top flight in defence, but different! I think we're watching a different Gerrard if you think he possesses the qualities you've listed. Gerrard isn't vocal, one of his problems, Carragher was always the vocal one out of the 2. He leads by example, but the example he's set recently had been poor so don't even really think he does that anymore. He doesn't organise. Again, Carragher was the organiser of the team. I've never seen Gerrard move people around at set pieces making sure everyone has their man etc. He used to be strong in the tackle 5 years ago. Playing at DM he is a weak tackler and it's exposed there, just as much as it will be at CB. He's good in the air, but not dominating enough to be a CB. Can you imagine Gerrard defending at CB against a Costa or Aguero?! Apart from all that.... it's still no
Gerrard's never been vocal. The arguments over the captains armband when it came to Gerrard vs Carragher was always a case of 'lead by example' vs 'vocal organiser'
Gerrard will tell a player what they'v done wrong, advice them or encourage them though. Even if he's not a screamer like Carragher.
I'd rather he tell them to get into the right position to now make the error in the first place No good telling someone they should have been marking that person that scored.... after they've scored! Tell them before and stop them scoring.
So despite having four international centre backs at the club, putting a 34 year in a position he's never played before is the best option we have? Never mind who is going to play in the holding role instead! Sorry Flappy, but I'm not with you on this one A consistent backline is what we need. It was the same last season but for some reason Brod likes to tinker about in that area. Also need to stop switching the system about and give players time to settle in too. Brod shouldn't try changing everything in one go!
