So what are the options? Realistically speaking who is out there. Maybe a short term fix with premier league experience. Someone aggressive.

    Struggling for names tbh.

Money talks. You have the cash so who could you tempt with a Di Maria over the odds type offer?

We need to get rid of the old guard and have a brand new defence. It does not really matter if we do not bring some elite 30m+ players. What we want are good decent defenders who have not played for SAF.

The players we have must toughen up. Many of the goals given away were as the result of being pushed like some sissy off the ball: soft like hell. How many times have we been told by the likes of SAF and others that the top teams in the prem have to win a physical battle first and then play the beautiful game.

If we want to attract the best...and I'm talking about players who are currently in the CL, it will depend massively on where we are in the league AND how we're playing (as well as money ofcourse). If we're struggling for wins and mid-table we won't get the big names, but if we're around 5th then I don't see why not.

Hummels is still being talked about in the press (even before today) and I think he's still a realistic target. Today's result doesn't change that.

There should be an s on the end of back as we need two. Evans and Jones are made of glass and Smalling will never make the grade.
Right now maybe Blind is a better bet with Carrick back in midfield taking his place there?

We need a right back too, time to face what is patently obvious about Rafael and always had been. He can't defend to save his life.

Good shout actually. Ashley Williams is steady too.

When he's not trying to kill people.

Vlaar would bring leadership too as hes villa captain. Would be fairly cheap too surely and cant see to much trouble getting him. Send young and 5million.

He is literally the only one in the prem worth having. Just looking around, the general state of defenders is pretty shocking. The worst surely in years.

We should have signed Garay and/or Vermaelin in the summer. Garay would have been a very good buy and even Vermaelin would be better than what we have atm.

Well, a quick look at the league tells me that our chronic defence has let in one more goal than the mighty Chelsea so far, take off the non-penalty against Rafael today and it makes us level. Are Chelsea in crisis with their poor defenders?

That Jones fee isn't looking like great business these days, thought he was the new Messi?
