As it looks like Palace are going to complete the triple of upsets this afternoon, my 16 year old son has pointed out to me that if I start to worry about other team's results in September, it's going to be a long season! He is right of course, so I'll try not to worry! And of course early last season Cardiff beat man City 3-2 but ended up getting relegated and Man City won the league, so as someone pointed out earlier there will always be upsets and they don't define a season. However, two thoughts. Firstly, we need to get our own share of upsets against top teams this season. I know we beat Liverpool last season but apart from that think we got one point against the top seven? Secondly, I do think this is a wake up call in a way, in that there seems to be some feeling that our recent signings might make us a top ten team. Well, they might, but given our form in second half of last season was relegation form, I reckon its more likely that they might be the minimum requirement for us to try and finish as high as we did last season. I suspect we'll be eyeing everyone else's results every week after all!
apart from newcastle, our form since march or so is the worst in the league ofcourse it doesn't take count of the 3 promoted teama
This is true but is also half the fun. Every season, in every division, I've worried about opponents' results from week 1.
lol, how many people actually think that? If you think most believe anything like that then I am sure you are completely out of touch. Many are looking for this team to stay up first and foremost, and obviously a leaky defence will not help in that.
5 games in .. long way to go and an evolving team .. stats can read any way u like .. only won 1 in 5 or only lost 1 in five ! Simple solution .. sit back and enjoy the ride .. far too early to worry about other teams results just yet only our own
Obviously the promoted teams will be above us. It doesn't show the true picture though, we've started this season strong and avoided defeats at some tricky fixtures. Results couldn't have gone worse today..
Last season taught us that early season form is really no indicator of where teams will end up - look at Palace and Sunderland last season - down and out for a long time but comfortably safe in the end.
They showed this on Goals on Sunday, but it doesn't take into account the fact that, since March, our focus (until this season) was on the FA Cup final, and we were pretty much already safe. That stat will soon change.
I'm not completely out of touch. I don't think they make us into a top ten team but do feel there has been a bit of feeling from quite a few that with Hernandez, Ben Arfa, etc we will not have any relegation worries. if you are telling me every one realises it's most likely to be a long hard slog, I'm glad to hear it.
boydy was with some of the lads in sugar mill last night, off topic but not making a thread oh and robertson is my twin meyler was a right moody **** though
I'm not saying everyone but most I think are more realistic. You always get a few people after the first games saying we are high up the table or whatever and will do great. But that's obviously silly as nobody can say that until much later in the season. Last year people were saying we were safe by Christmas which did annoy me as that wasn't at all evident. People always get obsessed with calculating results of other teams towards the end instead of just concentrating on us getting results.
yeah heard about this from some of my mates. They were giving him some proper ****e though (they aren't footy fans)
tbf i wouldn't be able to stand it, any sort of fame especially in a dive like sugar full of bellends not sure whyd you come home from newcastle and go in that hellhole when you have money
