By the way another thing I don't understand. How can hamilton save so much fuel but yet put in those crazy laps? Rosberg in the same car uses much more fuels....how does he do it? Seems like he really loves this car and it was made for him. Very easy on tyres and yet saves fuel with quali style laps. Wowo

I've noticed that he uses less fuel every race but how much of that is down to him and how much to the Mercedes, I couldn't say. He generally seems to use a bit less than Rosberg though.

'Cos he drives for Ferrari ;)

Mercedes' strategy was a gamble. Alonso would have found it more difficult especially since the Ferrari is harder on its tyres.

I think this guy is the driver of the day...his bottom was literally on fire. He was almost crying as he begged them to bring him in...he said I am dying out here..

17:05 – Kevin Magnussen was treated for burns by doctors after the Dane battled to 10th place at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Magnussen claimed the final point but only after a race in which an unexplained surge of heat in his cockpit caused the McLaren driver problems.

"It was a very, very tough Grand Prix," he said. "During the race, I don't know if there was something wrong with the car, but my seat started getting very hot, which made things extremely uncomfortable for me.

"Without that, I think we could have done better than 10th, but at least we got that one point. It's better than nothing. It was the hardest point I've ever earned."

Team Principal Eric Boullier believes that his young charger performed well in difficult circumstances.

"For Kevin, who had driven such an excellent qualifying lap here yesterday, this afternoon was gruelling; there's no other word," he said.

"He was subjected to severe bodily discomfort as his car's cockpit began to overheat, necessitating his holding his arms aloft, first one then the other, in an effort to direct cooling air down his sleeves and inside his race-suit, which was an unusually painful complication for him."

ppl were suspicious because the reliability was very one sided,it was always happening to lewis.and overall lewis has still had more mechanical issues this season anyway.

It was a big gamble ..I still don't think it was correct... I think it made hamilton worked much harder than he had to..

Meh, if they had panicked and brought him in he'd still have had to overtake Vettel and Ricciardo, and that way he probably wouldn't have had the advantage of fresh tyres.

Yes, that must have been really hard staying out there especially a rookie. Couldn't drink the water because it was burning his lips and he bottom on fire at the same time. To still come home with a point is a feather in his cap. He was brave enough not to give up as that was the easy choice.

There was a chance the tyres could have exploded and in the process damage the car badly or maybe a safety car which would have made it quite difficult at the end. But I guess it was a gamble that paid off.

Not only Magnusson, but Kvyat really suffered too, apparently, as his water bottle failed before the start of the race.

No, that was just Lewis worrying too much.

Or, if you want to hype it up a bit, a tyre can explode at any point without warning. There were a lot of guys who did longer stints on their tyres that he did.

That must have been really hard on those rookie guys... I mean if it were Vettel, Hamilton, button or Alonzo I could understand but those young guys must be thinking..I don't wanna do this again...lol. To say they were in the hot seat is an understatement. Lol

Quite a few of those were pootling around behind the safety car.

I know Lewis said this in the interview after the GP, but realistically it wasn't going to happen. He was just thinking negative thoughts.

I have a question on this... Why, on earth, don't Mercedes let him open the taps on fuel use? He always uses less than Rosberg... It's not like they're really marginal on fuel use... So what's the point of holding him back? Just let him use it FFS.

The fact Hamilton uses less fuel than Rosberg doesn't necessarily mean Mercedes are holding him back or he's using a lower engine mode or something. It's more likely to be to do with set-up or driving style. For instance, Williams have consistently used much less fuel this season than anyone else because their cars consistently have much less drag, but they've had the engine turned up as high as anyone. Given Hamilton likes the rear of the car to oversteer (i.e. less downforce) it would make sense that his car typically has less drag than Rosberg's, which is what gives him the advantage in fuel.
