United's capitulation showed how vulnerable they are. Not everything can be put to Moyes door. The supertanker takes a long time to run round. We have not reached that bottom yet. The defence is really weak. Yes the ref played a massive part but professionals should not capitulate like that. The weakest link are now the ex- ferguson players. I said in January that we need to get rid of most of them and build a brand NEW team. The Evans, smalling, jones, rafael are gone with SAF. (Btw this is no joke. Matth is really a jinx. Anyone who makes a losing thread must stop doing them. ) 95% of all Matth predictions last season went wrong.
There's no doubt we have been a different side going forward and I'm pleased with that. But the defence continues to be calamitous. The back 4 is just not working and has to be sorted. You score 3 goals away from home, there is no way you should be coming away losing the match. A strategy of trying to simply outscore the opposition is not going to be good enough. The best managers have to build from a good defence. I'm delighted with our attacking play and creativity, but the defence continues to be ignored.
Dunno, that creativity was pretty non existent in the last 30 minutes, great attcking options but when Leicester pressed you they easily physically overcame that midfield. Not one person to grab a hold of things and lead the team, Rooney is not that player. Keane would have cracked a few skulls today had he been playing, it wouldnt have been 5 3 either
I'm thinking the same, especially as they can't raise themselves with new management (and I include both Moyes and Van Gaal in that). Where I disagree is including Phil Jones and Rafael. Reason for Rafael is he's only just come back. But the rest are just not United first team players (squad players at best).
We scored 3 goals Nah, our style of football, the way we pass and move is much quicker and much better. There still needs to be some work done as players like Falcao, Rooney and Di Maria aren't quite reading each other, but despite that, instinctively the movement between them and the way Blind and Herrera are finding them with their passing has been a breath of fresh air in the last two games.
They were very good players when playing for SAF . But when SAF left, their ability/talent went with the old man. Don't ask me to explain but you can see it when they play. Would rafael be classed as a top premiership defender you would buy ahead of most others? Evans, smalling, ? We need to build a new team and that means spending really big in January. We may need to write off this season too.
That's a bit extreme No, I've always thought this will be a to and fro between United, Arsenal and Liverpool for top 4, and I today's result is simply part of that. Leicester are no mugs and the top teams will be given a game there. Credit to them for the way they've played so far this season. I still believe we can get top 4, there's enough quality to do that.
Stop overreacting, people!! That was a great game. As much as we want to point fingers, the ref changed the course of that game and Leicester to their credit, fully capitalized on it. Yes, United capitulated, but saying that season is a write off at this point is ridiculous. I saw United play better in the first 60minutes than I have at anytime in the past four years. Yes, including Sir Alex. What Ferguson's team had was mental toughness. That is essentially what we lacked today. I like this team going forward, for sure!
People slating Rojo on twittter like he's just murderd someone... I didn't see the game but was he that bad?
I am just a realist. Probably too much for my own good . The only f**ing consolation is that the RS are competing with United to be the worst of the top teams. Yes **** happens . But this does not make good viewing for anyone supporting united. I am being honest in saying that most of the SAF players need to be sold.
I agree with this entirely, it will take time to get that mental toughness back, it left with SAF and Moyes couldn't do anything about it. I think LV is heading in the right direction and I think today and against QPR we have seen some fantastic football. Today a number of things went against us, the referee being a big part of that, but I think a SAF team would have still held out and maybe nicked a goal at the end even though we haven't played with such attacking flair and movement since Ronaldo left. I think we'll be fighting for a top 4 spot this season.
We lost but played well. Thats the simple way of saying its nothing like under moyes. Remember cardiff last season?
Not really. The two mistakes he made weren't blatant fck ups. For example, their first goal came from him trying to kick the ball out on the sideline as he's turning, it ricochet fortunately off their winger who was running on to the ball so he was able to get clear and cross the ball. It wasn't as bad as is being made out.
Rafael is useless and isn't good enough for Utd. It's about time the club realises that. He's a liability and a big weak link. If I was the opposition manager every week v Utd, I'd tell my wingers/strikers to kick him because he loses the plot.
He's only just come back, isn't match fit and playing with a makeshift back line which he isn't familiar with to be fair. I say that bcos he has enough quality to fit into a solid back line, otherwise I'd agree.
He is a definate liability. He too often see's red and goes in 2 footed and gets sent off, or at least should be sent off. You need a calm head to play in his position and he just can't control himself at times.
Don't get me wrong. I am not blaming LVG at all. I didn't blame Moyes either . It is mostly about the players. It is evident that we don't have the solidity required. As I acknowledged earlier, the ref played a massive part by giving a dodgy pen but the defence somehow capitulated. SAF must share some if the blame as I had written before. He should have prepared for his departure. Superficially he left a fantastic legacy but looking back he left a squad that is full of weaknesses but still won titles. He was the massive glue and the steroids. So massive expectations but crumbling foundations. I agree with you BTW about the best attacking personnel since Ronaldo left several years ago.
Going to be a hard season now we need to beat the top teams now to have any chance of champions league places
Top 4 isnt needed this season just a inprovement on last season would be fine 5th or 6th wouldnt be the end of the world. Hopfully we sign a class CB in january.
