Looks like he could be on his way to Stoke

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has told Stoke City they must up their offer for Carlton Cole if they want to land the striker.

The Potters are reported to have made a bid of £3million plus various add-ons for the 27-year-old frontman.

Allardyce accepts the Hammers have to look at balancing the books following relegation from the Premier League last season.

Cole and fellow England internationals Rob Green and Scott Parker have been linked with a summer departure from Upton Park to remain in the top flight.

But the new Hammers boss stressed they would not be allowed to leave on the cheap.

    Financial position
"I believe at this stage that the offer is not good enough. It is not to the club's valuation," he told The Sentinel.

"We are keen to keep our key players. However, we have lost our Premier League status and our financial position has to be addressed.

"A part of that might be players are sold back to the Premier League, but only so long as that is right for our club."

West Ham signed Cole from Chelsea in 2006 and he is under contract until 2013.

He scored 11 goals last season and has a total of 42 from 165 appearances for the Hammers.

Nolan will struggle to be so effective if they sell all their big target men. Cole following Ba out the door makes it difficult for them.

At least we arent after him :D

Allardyce will spend the money on a lump to play up front but the burning question for West Ham fans is

Good news, can breathe easier now!

Strange tactics at West Ham though. Sign Nolan on big wages and then get rid of Cole plus rumours suggesting that they will lose Parker because they can't afford his wages.

If wages are a problem to them why did they sign Nolan at such a high cost? Doesn't make sense to me.

Probalby thought they needed one 'main' signing to guarentee them promotion as they know everyone else will end up leaving.

  12. Stoke are ****ing pathetic. That's Cole and Jerome they're signing. Two big piles of ****.

They refuse to try and play good football, and carry on with their bollocks.

You may be right in that that may be their reasoning. Doesn't make sense though. Nolan won't get them up on his own. Without service he is going to be no more effective than any conventional striker. He isn't a make goals from nothing sort of player and for his wages they could have recruited three good championship quality players.
