I blame Bony 100% ****ing stupid tackle. But also blame Monk for no seeing Siggi was knackered the ball just kept coming back at us, so we needed fresh legs. It was even worse when going 1-0 down, we have nothing to lose so lets go and attack them. So Emnes and Gomis should have come on straight away, at least we could have had a go. But credit to the lads they really put in a good shift. ****ing Bony the knob!!!
Everything was going well up until bony got sent off...It's no good saying this player should replace that player or blaming monk for his actions, we don't know the reasons or circumstances why monk used his choice of subs but you can bet it was done in his view as the best option...there is only one player who is to blame for this defeat and that is bony who needs to be benched now as he is looking tired and making too many mistakes and has done from the start of the season. He is not looking like the bony we saw last season and he needs some specialist training and put on the bench for a few games...It was reckless and unnecessary tackle that was a straight red anyway you look at it and that is down to tiredness and not fully fit....
Saints brought on the Irish midfielder and that controlled the game better for them, you have to give credit to the Saints for finally getting on top second half, but we did sit Deep inviting pressure, but was that Monk, or the Saints taking control of the game in midfield? Shelvey should have been subbed not Ki in my view, it was the only issue I had with Monk, Maybe Siggy could have been subbed for Gomis, but that's a side issue for me, but overall our boys put in a very good shift, and the team should be commended for their efforts today!...................
Partially agree, particularly re Shelvey, but credit the Saints for getting on top against ten men? I thought they were very ordinary actually.
I honestly do not think Gomis would have changed the result, with a front man we'd have been even more outnumbered in midfield as we were due to the red card. Our players might have been more forward thinking and that would have given Soton easier counter attacks. Whilst I blame the ref for not showing consistency and making it 9 outfield players apiece which obviously influenced the game, I still land all the blame on Wilf as he was bang out of order and let his teammates, manager, club and fans down today. The ref made dire calls but got the Bony one right and that is only his own fault for giving that plonker of an official a chance.
I'm sure he will apologise Valley. For the record, although I think Monk could have done more you have to say Bony cost us the three points today. Let's hope he pulls his socks up and wins them back sharpish.
You deserved to be ahead at half time; you were totally in control. Bony must have been mad to do what he did. Pointless; inevitable he'd get a second yellow. Play like you did in the first half and a good season awaits. On another front, your support in the second half was breathtaking. I can't recall ever having heard an entire crowd singing like that for so long when under the cosh. Made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Just outstanding. Vin
Well I did too, but I have not mentioned the ref, who in my view should have been more consistent, the Saints should have gone a man down too, and he was slow on times with his yellow in our favour, but overall we played very well today, and our boys are moving forward with their game in the right direction, my only concern is our strikers not firing, and that frustration was seen today with Bony's red, that for me is the real issue today our midfield is carrying our forward line, and you cannot go down one man against a passing side like the Saints either, and that was always going to be a huge hill to climb........
Agree with that. Bony deserved the two yellows but Fonte should have gone too and if that happened we'd have won that game imo.
I feel more settled after our 2 losses than I did after the 3 wins .Doesnt matter who Monk brought on , criticism will come from different angles . I cant help but think that we would have got a point if Britton was healthy and playing .
Regardless of what you thought about the substitutions and how to tackle playing with 10 men, I thought both the team and the crowd were fantastic. Great atmosphere second half and the crowd almost got the team over the line for a point.
Three points dropped today - I thought Southampton were very ordinary and Bony got suckered into a physical duel with players who were on a premeditated agenda. Great attitude from the players and crowd - but a learning curve for Wilf.
We got lucky, you didn't. Bony was a knob. Looking forward to St Mary's and taking 3 more points from you. TTFN.
Bony is not as match fit as we assume he is as the world cup and internationals looks to have taken a lot out of him. I have noticed in every game he has played that something is just not quite right with him as he is making far too many errors that he would not normally do. He has lost a bit of pace and his shooting is not as accurate as we are use too with his skill. Monk i hope will see this and rest bony for a few games and lighten his training accordingly so he can regain his match fitness in his own time. sitting on the bench is a great motivator and with a few weeks rest then im sure bony will recover his outstanding form and wont make such errors in his game that we can see now.....Im as angry with Bony as much as everyone but monk must take some of the blame for working him too hard after what bony has had to endure since the end of last season. Gomis must now start for us for a number of games and give bony enough time to recover...
When it was 11 v 11, I thought that we were the better side. Had it stayed that way, I have no doubt that we would have won. Before the season started, I suppose that we would have been "happy" with 9 points from the first 5 games.
