Agree with that. After they scored we should have gone with a double substitution with Gomis and Emnes, bad call by Monk nothing to lose then.
What am I missing. We have 3 subs. A Multi-Million pound striker on the bench. Shelvey is tired and useless. Use 2 subs. One left - never gets used. WTF
Can't fault that performance. First half we were superb and second half was a great team effort and we nearly got the point.
Three points dropped today. Gomis should have been on for Siggy with at least twenty left but we were always going to lose with a park the bus mentality anyway. Keep possession and keep playing. Such a shame, we were great until Bony's red.
Conceding a goal with 10 minutes left is not nearly getting anything. 10 seconds maybe .... 10 minutes, I don't think so.
We played 50 minutes with 10 men for Christ sake. The players gave everything. They played very well. Can't fault the effort. Jonjo should have been subbed though.
Delighted that we won obviously, but if I was a neutral, I would have really been pulling for you to get something. Sending off changed the game, as we were totally inept first half, although Bony was very silly to do what he did. Feel for you guys. I know it doesn't make you feel any better, but we were fortunate and you weren't today. All the best guys.
Don't agree here, the only one that deserves criticism is Bony, he owes the club and fans an apology for that reckless tackle after already being booked, and it was Bony that cost us 3 points today as up until that red card, we were all over the Saints, Monk in my view made all the right calls, though I would have taken Shelvey off and not Ki!...................
Why am I not surprised at your remarks Valley? Bony was a twonk but we could all see the type of subs needed to get something from this game. Saints were not great today but sitting as deep as we did was asking for trouble. Like I said if you're inviting them on to hit them on the break then that's not a bad plan - but we sat deep and then kept giving them the ball back. Even you said Gomis should have come on but you refuse to criticise Monk for woeful tactics and substitutions. How does that work? We had Siggy looking completely lost up front and that's no surprise - he can't hold the ball up like Gomis and can't turn and run at tired defenders like him either. Credit where it's due but you have to accept the brickbats when you get it wrong. And he did.
The best 10 men performance I've seen from us was against Forest in the play-off semi final first leg. Keeping the ball is very hard against a fast pressing team like Saints, but we should definitely have been willing to attack them when given the opportunity. We played a 10-man wall and hoofed all our possession away - asking for a loss. I hope we've been doing our overloading work in training - we used to be very good when down to 10 men under Rodgers.
BK: "We played a 10-man wall and hoofed all our possession away - asking for a loss. " This ^^^^^ And I'm also blaming Bony but if as a fan you think the Manager got his tactics and subs wrong then we should be allowed to say so. Look at the board. We were all screaming for Gomis to come on with 30 minutes left if not before. That would have caused them problems imo.
There must be a reason Gomis didn't come on, hopefully the question will be asked in the post match interviews. I'm really f**ed off with Bony atm, that first was was outstanding and I think we would have gone on to win the game.
I agree with this, lately when we are under the cosh, we seem to just hoof it up field back to the opposition, but still it's very early season and we have a run of games where we can bounce back!...............
I wouldn't have played Gomis today, he's had plenty of game time and has not really fired up, Monk keeping him on the bench was the right call, Emnes is more than capable and I would have done the same as Monk today!..............
What, bringing Emnes on at 85 minutes? What use was that? So Phil, you think Monk got tactics and subs right but also agree we should have attacked when we could. Don't get that. Monk clearly got us to sit deep, and we didn't look interested in getting forward at all second half. That has to come from the Manager, surely?
