They just like to play the game of 'name any player' lol and think that they've solved the problem.

Offensively I thought he looked very assured and he's also very pacey. His positioning needed work but that will come with games.

His main job is to defend, not attack, people need to go watch the game back again to see Dortmunds chances in the first half were coming from the right.

Yeah he's a young play against a top team of course he was going to find it difficult. He needs to work on his positioning definitely. But a rb in our team has a lot of offensive duties as well and I thought he did well going forward, he looked better than jenkinson on the ball.

I think he will improve defensively with game time. I don't think he's a bad option. Just not the ideal option.

Unless we get more injuries before debuchy or monreal are back we won't need to rely on him though.

I'm not blaming him for his performance.

Btw people, we don't have a single defender on the bench VS Villa, sums it all up really on how thin we are at the back.

I'm thinking coquelin was there to cover the back line.

    He's not a defender.

He's played both lb and rb before for us I think.

He did as RB and we lost to Sunderland and got dumped out of the cup, again, he is not a defender, he's a midfielder who we played in that position a few times as an emergency, and it didn't work out.

We had ZERO defenders on the bench today.

I watched it. Dortmund had 22 shots on goal. We were really poor in that game. Bellerin had a decent enough game considering.

That 'paper thin' defence kept a clean sheet today <ok>

Looks like coquelin will be playing as a LB for us tonight if the likely line up posted earlier is correct. It'll be interesting to see how he plays. Could he possibly carve himself out a role as a back up LB? He doesn't play well enough in midfield for me, maybe this is his chance to show he has another use.

Coquelin was much like Denilson to me. A defensive midfielder who couldn't tackle or defend.

He's fairly quick and has a decent rage of passing though. Who knows maybe he's better suited to playing as a fullback.

Must admit, my club (Manchester United) have been down to the bare bones in defense fairly regularly the past few seasons (it seems to happen every 2nd season or so), but the difference is we have tons of central defenders and then they all get injured...

Obviously you guys only have 3 or so pure central defenders, so you only need a couple of injuries to be in a crisis, where we had 5 or 6 injuries...

Both clubs need to investigate what is causing all the injuries (and it can't just be coincidence as Wenger says, because it's happened too often now to both clubs), but it's astonishing that you guys had so little cover defensively. I know you supporters pointed it out at the time, and the subsequent disbelief when TV was sold without a replacement!

Leaving us this short at the back, was a sackable offence. Wenger is sometime an utter muppet, and I hate abusing him like that, but **** it.

    Yes, along with several others.
If everybody can keep on topic without the goading, accusations, baiting, **** stirring etc then there will be no reason to delete any posts
