So Debuchy as we all know is out, and Monreal has been added to the list too with a back injury, and according to Wenger there is no scheduled return for Monreal. So our already paper thin defence just got a lot thinner, basically our makeshift 4th choice emergency CB is now out, so if worse comes to worse and say one of Kos-Mert get injured, we will have to rely on the heavily inexperienced Isaac Hayden to come in to play CB, we all saw how great playing an inexperienced defender worked out against Dortmund in Bellerin, NOT VERY GOOD. Top top top super top planning by Mr. Wenger, really shows massive ambition to challenge eh.
Wenger has once again propelled us into a league that grows increasingly competitive each year with a woefully inadequate squad. Nice job, arsehole.
I agree with the general sentiment that we are thin at the back and we need to add players there. But you're going over the top as usual. As it stands, we have our first choice RB out but we have decent cover there in Chambers. For the other 3 positions we have our first choice players available.
I agree, Jenkinson needs to be recalled now. I know he was loaned out for experience, but he will get plenty of playing time with us not that a few of our defensive players are out.
I believe Jenkinson is injured, so recalling him won't do any good. If one of Mert or Kos get injured, I'd move Chambers to CB and play Bellerin. But I agree, we are ****ed at the back. Wouldn't mind us getting an old CB as a free agent atm...
Most season-long loans don't have recall options. A club the size of Arsenal with their spending power shouldn't be in a position like this after a handful of games. It's ridiculous.
I thought Bellarin was OK the other night. There were certainly others that deserved criticism that night ahead of the rookie, so yes let's discuss the lack of defensive options but let's also recognise that we have one or two 'in-house' options...
Chelsea started the season with the same number of first team defenders as we have so it's obviously not. I'm not saying we don't need another CB but I also feel like people are overreacting.
Over the top? We only have 2 proper CB's, with a RB who can play CB if needed, but no RB cover so who the f** plays RB if Chambers has to fill in at CB? And Chambers himself is very young and very inexperienced at CB so hardly a world class back up, so not being over the top at all, you just want to pepper over the obvious cracks and lack of proper options. All it takes is one injury to a CB to leave us with no actual established RB's and only one actual proper CB, and for the love of all that's f**ing holy, stop mentioning Bellerin.
Chelsea have Terry,Cahill,Zouma AND ivanovic who can cover at CB. Plus they have Mikel who has also played CB before in competitive games. We have Mert,Kos and then Chambers, who now has to play at right back for six weeks. We do not have any other player who can fill in at CB. Monreal as an option for CB is pathetic. Wenger has ****ed up big time.
Hayden, Wenger has said Monreal can play CB whether or not you agree on his quality in that position.
Hayden and Monreal, wow just wow. How a club like Arsenal can get into a situation where we have to consider these two playing at CB for us is just staggering.
I haven't mentioned Bellerin, until now. But as pointed out he was actually one of our better players against Dortmund. I'm not papering over any cracks as if you'd read my comment properly I said that we are thin at the back and need to add players. You can go on about 'What if's' until the cows come home, but as it stands we have a back four available of Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielney and Gibbs I'm more concerned about the overall performance of the team at the moment and the seeming ability for teams to carve through the middle of our MF than defensive numbers.
They carve through because of the lack of DM. They then hit a back line without sufficient defenders. And all because of Wenger, who had the money, and goodness knows he's had the time. Now his time has run out. He will never win the CL, he will never win the PL again. Arsenal have a brighter future without him.
Currently we have a pretty solid back 4, we are only playing a backup player at RB and we've all been pretty impressed with him. If we get another injury at the back then we are looking like it could have an impact. If either CB is out bellerin plays on the right (which I don't have an issue with) with chambers in the middle (I have slight issue with two youth defenders at once). Any injuries beyond that and we are struggling. I think depending on how the current injuries clear up we may well be in for a defender in January.
This We are light on numbers at the back and everybody knows we need a DM, that isn't in dispute. But our back four is actually pretty good still despite injuries to Debuchy and Monreal
Not really, Dortmund had 2 great chances from the right hand side but didn't score, you need to go watch that game again.
