Evening All

Wont be about tomorrow as after taking my youngest swimming, it's off to the pub for some beer and then to the mighty Fratton Park to see Pompey play (maybe play is being a bit strong)! So will post my one for the Ayr Gold Cup tonight:

Going for an old favourite HawkeyethenooEach Way (20/1 B365) - Has not won for 2 years but is always in the mix in races like this, thought he was a tad unlucky in running at Ascot last time and I reckon is capable of grabbing a place tomorrow afternoon.

Cheers Trevez

The big Arc Trial at Newbury tomorrow ..................... is Treve running? <laugh>
Seriously though, is a gelding allowed to run in the Arc Trial, even though he couldn't run in the real thing?

2.05 Ayr - Zuhoor Baynoona 11/2 carries the Patience Alexander and Tiggy Wiggy form which is pretty much the best 2yo form you can get. Id happily take that over the Beacon form that Ainippe carries.

Good spot mate, ta - I would probably have missed the bugger otherwise. This is without doubt the best race he's competed to date and there are some very useful yardsticks in it - the AOB runner, Ted Veale and Rebel Fitz plus Barry Connell's runner. The Sporting Life tissue has him at 5s, only Betfair showing prices on Oddschecker at the moment, have him at 3s. Could be a decent bit of value in him early doors, can see him being well supported in this.

Just looked at the online version and it is pretty horrific - it takes a sick bastard to even take such photos, but an even sicker one to publish them on the front page of a National newspaper. Absolutely disgusting.

Interesting quote from the Mirror's tipster Newsboy:

"Anyone considering betting on a race at Ayr or Newbury – or anywhere else today – should first face one fact squarely in the eyes.

Thoroughbreds die as a result of horse racing. When an animal runs at full speed, it can sustain fatal injuries. That is when the horse is euthanised to limit its suffering.

I have just celebrated 24 years of racing journalism, and have no moral problem with working in an industry of animal conditioning.

Neither, it seems, did the SIX MILLION people who enjoyed a day at the races in 2013.

Horse racing employs thousands of people and puts millions of pounds into the Exchequer every year. That’s a lot of school books.

Think about it."

An equally shocking report from the Racing Post website:

TONY MCCOY was involved in an astonishing, ugly scene after finishing second on last-race favourite Saint Helena at Worcester on Friday evening.

A racegoer leapt on one of the benches alongside the grandstand rail near the winning post and heaped abuse on McCoy as he returned on pulling up after the 2m novice handicap hurdle.

"I had a beer can thrown at me," reported McCoy, who had ridden a four-timer before being beaten on 7-4 favourite Saint Helena, the Jim Best-trained horse who is the subject of a BHA investigation in the wake of winning when well backed at Southwell the time before.

Eyewitnesses reported the irate racegoer trying to climb the r ail, with McCoy gesturing back at him.

Racecourse security finally intervened and the racegoer was marched away as other racegoers applauded McCoy.

The stewards confirmed there was no inquiry as the racegoer had not trespassed on the track, and that the incident would be dealt with by the racecourse.

McCoy's winners were Petrovic for his boss Jonjo O'Neill, El Namoose and My Direction for John Ferguson, and Marju's Quest for David Dennis.

The bloke who had a go at McCoy is a complete tit. Fancy backing a Best nag the race after it landed a touch.

The whole horse racing welfare issue is a little bizarre when you think about it. Of their species they are the most cosseted, pampered and best looked after on the planet.

A little (very little!) ew Lucky31 for me today. The Amy Ryan double of Bogart and Blaine together with Mister Fizz up at Ayr. Running Deer at Newbury and Mabait at Newmarket. Good luck all.
