Have to be honest I havnt heard all of the clashs' songs but hearing london calling and rock the kasbah on xfm it sounds like "pop" now rather than punk. Not sure what all the fuss was about although I was a bit young at the time and like I say havnt heard all their stuff.

i would also class the sex pistols as pop punl, but with a bit of swearing, to make themselves look like radicals..

the proper punk bands were the likes of crass, exploited. etc.

NIrvana at The Mayfair in 1992. Sweat literally dripping down the walls.

Played furiously for 50 minutes, then smashed the stage up. No encore.

    Perfect!

Arcade Fire in Manchester 2004 ran them close.

The Clash crossed a variety of genres which is what I like about them.
Early stuff like Janie Jones, White Riot, 1977 were a bit on the punk side.

Then they did some real reggae stuff like Rudie Can't Fail which is on of my favourite songs.
They also did some great rock like The Card Cheat, Bankrobber, Julie's Working For The Drug Squad.

Brilliant band, Ihave on CD every song they ever released.

There are some great punk reunion gigs at Newcastle & Durham universities.
The likes of the Anti Nowhere League, UK Subs, Stiff Little Fingers, The Members, One Way System.

Had some great nights out at these places.

Best ever gig I think I've been to is Elvis Costello at the Mayfair in Newcastle in the 80's on the Punch the Clock Tour ,was outstanding.
Apart from that one of my other bests was a free night in a nightclub in Morecambe seeing a Madness copy band called 1 step behind, they were superb

This was my first ever gig and as I was only 11 it has to go down as my favourite of all time, can still remember seeing slash driven to the gig as we walked from Gateshead metro.

As did all the Bay regulars, those days Sunderland was right up there for live music, thanks to Doc of the Bay and a few others.
