Agree fully. Murray might be a bit of an arse with his anti-English nonsense, but that sort of comment (Dunblane) is sick and should not be justified by any talk of him setting himself up as a target.
I would start my thinking with a 2 tier English system. Local Administrations based either on regions or cities or even counties with powers devolved from an English parliament. As for the voting system then I'd probably favour FPTP.
I don't think he's even said anything seriously anti-English. The English media just seem to be extra sensitive to everything he says.
Why? I've already said I think it should be left alone until it dies naturally. Unless it gets out of hand I see no reason to close it. Some others have said the same. The fact that it's still active shows that people are interested in it.
MITO, look back at the response to your original proposal to close the thread. It's truly not down to you to set a timeframe. If it dies naturally so be it, if people are still talking then it stays open. It's just not a Mod issue!
It's been a weird day in politics that's for sure. I actually started to have some admiration for Salmond as he delivered his acceptance of defeat speech this morning and it has only grown with him standing down a few hours later. There is no denying that he has absolutely changed the political weather on this island for many years to come! I loathe his politics but I have to admire his conviction and bravery. He's got bigger balls than our 3 pygmies down in Westminster! Call me Dave! God help us!
And I was just beginning to like you...... ********** I don't see regional devolution as the answer. In practice, the London based South East area will still exercise a hegemony over the other regions. A fairer distribution of wealth and resources is needed, and that needs to be decided by a parliament that realises its responsibility to the nation as a whole, and acts upon it. Imo, devolution will only result in regions competing against each other when they should be co-operating.
Ok guys I'll check back.... Honestly if you are having a good debate grand. At the time I looked I felt it was going to head one way but when I checked in this evening very briefly found a different debate. Though honestly when you are done this topic would it not be better create an new it topic and freshen it up but it's like I am quoted on ibwt's signature once You guys decide on the content here not mods we are just users volunteering to keep the board running so if the consensus is the discussion is good fair enough
Dave not being smart but I asked a question and you should have more manners at your age Tobes on one hand said the same fairly and on the other stevig said fair enough. I could say who cares back to you but I do actually care and just want to apply the kind of feedback people gave previously that's all. I supported having politics on the board on hashes thread and was the one who just put it on this one
Then as far as I'm concerned then you should pay more attention to the tone of your posting. Your original was 'high-handed' particularly as there appeared to be no call from the posters to close the thread - so why was there even a need to introduce the idea of closing the thread? To then repeat the same type of post with a deadline for closing the thread makes me,at least, even more arrogant. Now I don't want a battle over this but if you truly believed that I was being offensive then you did have the opportunity to PM me. However, as far as I know, no other Mod has ever proposed closing a thread without any clear demand to do so - to me that is an abuse of power and hence my rejoinder!
The idea was actually two fold from me ok just to explain 1. The thing had gone on awhile and election was over 2. There was stuff about election fraud and I thought hey this could go down hill So I thought hmmm maybe better closed but I then thought maybe you guys would want to do the day after so I asked Basically.... Just that I am sorry but no other mod and abuse of power? Go think on that cos..... I asked... Not told asked. Then when I came back on and saw I said what I said and when two of you said hey check back I did If this is what you think abuse of power is......
Perhaps we should have a referendum on the matter.. I'm voting no. To the closure of this thread. Then perhaps turn this into a RPG MITO = Salmond. DAVE= Gordon brown Gerrez= Nicola sturgeon. I then suggest we make really complicated rules that no one understands..
The Cambridge Tory chap can be Cameron. I'd suggest luv as Andy Murray as everyone hates Andy murray. Seems a decent fit.
Can the poll on this thread be changed to should it be closed.. Then we can all follow due democratic process. Set a date for the results to be counted. We can all make speeches.. God I'm nearly as excited as I was when I tried reading the mafia game..
"If this is what you think abuse of power is...." why are you going to try and show me! Are you really that unaware that if you twice come to a thread with proposals to close that thread based on what appears to be solely your own opinion ( I note that you have not forwarded any suggestion that you had been pressed to do so) then it can be interpreted as an abuse of power. I doubt that it will but if the discussion was to last throughout next week then it would now do so being under threat of closure by yourself as it had gone beyond your self-appointed deadline. If you actually look at the title of the thread then you'll see that it relates not just to the referendum itself but to the implications for the whole of the UK - and that is on-going!
