You are right. All those gifts are vote buying for the following year I think But..... I don't think the story is about the brazilians or sponsers greasing wheels it's really a transparent dig at dyke by blatter leaking it cos frankly everyone knows that scum hasn't forgotten where his gift is at all. No he is saying duke is just as bad as the rest of them so dyke can't play the moral high ground and have digs at blatter getting reelected I really think is politics and smears but dyke really is as bad as the rest I've not forgotten 2006 World Cup award when the Germans bought the New Zealand vote it how 2018 and 2022 have gone to dodgy countries These kinds of gifts must fn pile up at delegates doors when elections etc come up
It's down to a sense of entitlement. Did x get more than me. Did I get more than y and so on..... They should all be forced to live in goven with the rest of the jocks who voted for independance
When I was young I took a present to a party now the kids bring one home, similarly Halloween trick or treat relatively recent import we can do without. Corporate gifts have been around a while not of the magnitude we're talking here but Mont Blanc pens and leather bound items [just 2 quick examples I can remember] have found their way to our house.
At least "corporate gift" is a grown-up sounding term, although "bribe" would probably be a more accurate one. "Goody bag" is for children.
What was the 'bribe' for though? The delegates were at the FIFA congress in Sao Paulo the day before the opening WC game, why bribe them with expensive watches, what was to be gained from it?
Tbh I think you are all missing the point here as not one of youhas pointed out the fecking obvious How the chuff do I get a job like this - I am more than happy to receive kick backs and bungs - Sepp you know where I live
See it's not the now it's the.... You know who'll look after you nod when the time comes round for whatever. At every FIFA meeting I bet the same goes on and delegates go hmmmm England they didn't look after me as well as Russia last time never mind about stadiums or this William guy or beckham. The Russians gave my wife a necklace here and me a watch there and so forth
I was once offered £3k ( back in the 80's) to sell a damaged road going crane to a firm for £14k. I told them no chance and when they sent in their sealed bids I expected their offer to be at least £17k. It was sold to another party following the sealed bid process for £35k. The top half was perfect, the bottom was knackered after someone committed suicide by driving into it at 100 mph, whilst the crane was going flat out at 60 mph whilst being tested on a long straight road.
Oh and before I forget How many of you lot work in businesses and have had sales guys throw stuff at you You know the crap.... bottles of whatever at Christmas, tickets to games etcetc I had one f'r somehow find my home address and post me 300quid in shopping vouchers I can tell you I was not impressed, just like dyke. But the missus spent them... She's the corrupt one! Where I used to work would collect all bottle donated and raffle them... And hr would take their pick first so the best stuff only goes in ince I can tell you Lesson it's a corrupt world
I work for an American firm and they insist we do a monthly declaration of "gifts received/donated" down to having a cup of coffee bought/or buying a cup of coffee when meeting clients.
I was generalising, not talking about that specific incident. Gifts can be bribes in that they're buying your goodwill for the future, or merely ingratiating themselves so you'll think well of the giver.
So on your death bed will you feel better than blatter or regretful..... That I suppose is the measure of morality
