Get him back, we've signed players over 30 before like Van Der Sar, Blanc and Larsson. Age shouldn't come into it at all.
One's a keeper for a start, Blanc and Larsson hardly tore the place up and none of them cost even remotely Ronaldo money in wages and fee. Do you think before you type or is it a reflex! Most nonsense comparison I've seen since Zaha and Ronaldo. In fact that was you too!
Are you out of your collective mind? First United won't possibly get him for £50m, and two he is no risk. If we get even one or two years from him at a high level, it would have been worth it and Ronaldo knows the place and he is fit. Even at half capacity, with Di Maria and Falcao, he'll form a great fearsome attack. Even at more than that. the GGs should snap him up. United's global prestige will go up as well as their income from shirts and sponsors. Absolute no brainer.
It's amusing how United go on a massive spending spree one summer (to catch up) and suddenly all their fans seen to think money is no object and they can pay whatever they like to whoever they like. United is still operated as a business. NO player is worth 50 million for '1 or 2' years to any club.
I don't know what to believe to be honest. There's still rumours of large debts incurred still standing but on the other hand United generate a lot of money - probably enough to go on a big spending spree like they just have. Fair enough, just clarifying what you meant
That's the whole point. Ronaldo is good business as well as a huge asset on the pitch. The playind side: he'll fit in no problem. A world class player. Business side which the GGs are more interested in. The money required to bring back will be huge. BUT they will get their money back. Yes the money involved would start to look absurd but this is competing (financially) at a different level.
I not really sure how you'd get your money back purely on a business side but happy to be educated on the subject. He may sell you a few more shirts but surely that money just goes to the kit provider. I can't imagine they are paying you 750 million over 10 years PLUS a cut of shirt sales on top. Image rights are probably largely owned by the player, especially a player of Ronaldo's standard. He may bring a bit more marketability to United perhaps but United are a massive brand anyway and have some world stars on their books already. I just can't see how it all adds up when you factor in wages and transfer fee with little or no recoup at the end of a say 4-5 year contract. I'm not saying at all that it would be a bad thing but I think bring Ronaldo back would be more akin to showing you can bring him back rather than strictly needing him or it making business sense. Of course the more world class players the better in a on the pitch side of things.
I know what you mean. I just think primarily United can't actually afford to stay outside the elite for too long. Teams can be quickly forgotten in the emerging markets if you're not at the forefront. I think the spending was more to do with knowing they need to get back in the C.L and with the kit deal (amongst others no doubt) being performance related in part, this becomes increasingly more important. United will continue to spend but not to the level of the last 2 windows in my view. If they had finished top 4 last year I don't think we'd have seen this type of spend. Time will tell....
Some element of truth. Although IMO it will take a few years for United's global support to be significantly affected. United's global support was hardly affected when they spent one year in the 2nd tier in the 70s. So the CL is important but for the money men principally for its image and keeping the club on TV across the world. They can counter act that absence by playing some "friendly" lucrative tournament in the far east in the summer. There is no doubt in my mind that had United reached the CL that spending spree this summer would not have happened. Woodward amd Moyes messed it up last summer and the GGs realised that they have to spend this summer to have a competitive team. Funnily enough, the increased publicity and glamour from having Di Maria and Falcao could mean that they are quids in too...
For a start there is a percentage for the club from all increased MU merchandising sales - not just shirts from sales at the store, online etc. Someone like Ronaldo also brings in other revenues - increased sponsorship revenues, partnership deals, film (independent) TV rights, increased MUTV subscription, maxed out season ticket sales, increased interest in MU products and services - all of which combined will generate serious increase in revenues and will offset the cost of buying and paying the player. But really, none of that matters a bit as we simply want the boy back home to play with some of the other best players on the planet.
This. Ronaldo will lift United's image and will bring even more revenue. I can't see Real selling him though as they have the same MO as United. They've increased their revenue massively by purchasing the most expensive players on the planet (Ok they also win trophies but they have had the odd lean year too!).
You lot think United is already the biggest club in the world, adding one player can't make that much difference.
Globally, it is certainly the club with the largest support and with the biggest brand value. But you cannot rest on your laurels. Football wise, domestically the biggest and most successful bar none. At a European level, it is not doing so well. Real Barcelona, Milan, Bayern ahead.
United are in danger of doing a Leeds... yes, they're rich... yes they'll probably get back on track... but £250k p/w for Rooney, £350k p/w for Falcao, £500k p/w for Ronaldo... £120k p/w for the fat teenager... and that's excluding the cost to feed him... They said they based their budget on the assumption they would finish third. Leeds based their budget on the assumption they would win titles. A few years outside the CL- if you're spending £1.5million p/w on just 4 players- 2 of which aren't that good... that's £78mill in wages on 4 players and assuming you'll get third each year. It's silly... that's what did Leeds in.
