Clasie has only just signed a 4 year deal with Feyernord and has shown some intent on staying there. It would also seem strange to wind down Jack's contract when he is worth £3m at the very least. There's also the risk that Morgan could leave next summer so on every level it doesn't make sense for us to let Jack go.
This, I can understand possibly letting Jack go if we replace him with Clasie, and keep Morgan! But if a big club playing in the champions league comes in for him they'll be no denying him that opportunity!
Jack is a very underrated player in my opinion, does not do the spectacular, but is very, very good at what he does do. Always surprised me that his value seems to be around £3M, would have placed him a lot higher. Really hope there's a new contract coming?
I am not sure if this remark refers to Morgan or Clasie, but either way, then this may be why the Board are taking their time.
Champagne Charlie was about as effusive as you can possibly be when talking about Corkie on GSS this weekend. "Arsenal need him and I'd take him in a heartbeat. A heartbeat!".
Clasie is having a good season at Feyernord and is being chased by Manchester United and Arsenal to name but two. Would be an immense signing. If we qualify for any European compeition next year there will be room for Cork in the squad too because we will need to rotate the squad to cope with the number of games. Cork actually does nothing wrong and is a great player for us because he suits our style of play. Nice simple play in the middle to break down the opposition and get us moving again.
I'd say keep Cork if Schneiderlin goes and replace Morgan with Clasie. If Schneiderlin stays, replace Cork with Clasie.
By the time we know whether or not Morgan is staying I imagine it will be too late to decide on cork. Your scenario could see us lose both
I'd want to keep Cork, but if Schneiderlin stays and Clasie wants to come, and with Reed and JWP coming through, then he may become a squad player. Think Schneiderlin will go so I want him to sign an extension.
Transfers don't always work. We already have a player in Cork that fits in here, so can't see why we wouldn't extend his contract. Cork has indicated that he wants to stay...after all there can't be many better options than Saints for him. I am surprised it wasn't sorted after we extended the contract of Davis....strange.
I cant see why anybody would not want Jack Cork to remain at Saints ! He has been terrific for us most times he plays. Hope that he is offered and signs a new contract here.
I don't see the sense in even considering letting Cork go unless there is someone coming in who is a major step up in quality. If Saints have pretentions to Europe, be it Europa or CL, then the squad needs to have strength in depth. That may mean the kids have to take a wee side-step in adjustment. Jack is ahead of what we have coming through and he is still isn't the finished article. He has got markedly better in the Premier League seasons so far. There's no reason to think he won't get better still. Two seasons ago he wouldn't have been good enough for this team. Now he is an asset.
