Personally I've never thought Fuller was the correct choice as Captain. I'd give it to Matt Lawrence.
Lawrence will probably only be with us for one more season and with that in mind, i would choose either kedwell or j.payne as perhaps more long term candidates - i am not sure that fuller will be starting as i think fish will be a far more solid right bacl!!
Don't think giving Kedwell the captaincy would be right. Don't like it when new players get the captaincy and experience is very limited. J. Payne is certainly a future Gills captain but it's too early he's not an established first team regular yet. Although I do believe he'll get more game time this season.
I think Jack Payne will be our most important player this season with the probable departure of Maher and at times last year he looked like the most tenacious and hard working player on the pitch, encouraging players and belying his age - He would be my number one choice! I agree that new players shouldnt normally be Captain, but he has experience and first and foremost he is going to try his best each and every game as a Gills fan...so Hessy could break with convention and I wouldnt be complaining!
lets wait and see who we bring in and for how long shall we. hard to chose atm, although i would like fuller to lose it just to make him fight for his place a bit more
Lawrence every day of the week. He was captian last year he just didn't have the armband to prove it!
I would say Payne but he is too young at the moment, don't want to put to much on his shoulders at his young age.
Matt Lawrence for me - he's in the place to see it all and command it all. He was very vocal last season and wasnt afraid to call others on to a ball and dictate pace of the attack or defence and he has the experience to be a good captain. Barry is a great worker and sometimes needs to concentrate on his own game too hard to push others. I think the break will do Barry a favour in the long run.
I am not sure if I would change it as I know it could really affect the teams morale and could sort of push Fuller out the door, I would just stick with how it is, also I think Hess would want to do the same. But we will need a 2nd choice as Mark bentley used to be 2nd choice captain and he is gone so I would choose Matt Lawrence or Danny Kedwell for that one,.
reckon they ought to make captain as i could, sort out the BACK & the SIDE'S, sort out the CROP of new player's, & keep an eye on the FRINGE player's & if need be i could perhaps SHAVE a bit more off the wage bill, am only trying to be helpful so will wait for the phone to ring now,
yeh youre absolutely right Gills-Prog-Seller. man you know your stuff. even with broken arms, legs, nose, fingernails, missing limbs, headache, belly ache, he gives his all and never wants to come off. hes either a warrior or a fking ******. man i love that man (not at as much a dicko tho, but close).
