I thought it was real strange when this cloud over the trees kept getting bigger while I was putting the chickens away for the day. This fire is no threat to me but 400 some houses have been evacuated already. Id say the fire is 25 miles or so from me near a place called Pollock Pines for anyone who has spent any time in northern cali. I guess it just started a few hours ago.

Here is a photo of the fire I took a few min ago.

There have been a bunch of construction vehicles going up and down the road everyday so I think people are either already rebuilding or at least repairing their homes. Thats a good sign anyway, nice that they got their checks quickly, those that had insurance that is.

Yea its all good for me minus the constant 90 plus degrees every day. I dont think we have had rain for probably 5 months or so, hopefully we get some rain by the end of October. It would certainly cut down on the forest fires. With the drought the rain didnt show up last rainy season until February, we certainly need rain far earlier than that this time around.

I hope all goes OK Ellwood, these fires are very unpredictable so take care.

Just as a matter of interest on a lighter note there was a guy on Radio Humberside on Friday evening, who like you is a Hull City supporter, and he has flown over from Washington DC to see the game tonight.

    Yea, its California after all.

The fire is now up to 4,000 acres and growing. They have just shut down the major highway going to Lake Tahoe as the fire is about to jump the highway. Apparently a half hour or so ago the fire rushed towards a prison firefighting crew and they were forced to deploy their emergency fireproof tents but all of them survived. Talk about lucky. The tents do not always save them if you remember all those firefighters who died in AZ last year whose tents failed. Well the tents didnt actually fail they just can only hold so much heat for so long before even they can not save the person inside.

The fire is now 19,000 acres and growing pretty quickly. There are almost 7,000 firefighters fighting the fire right now. One of the 2 main roads to lake Tahoe have now been shut down for a couple days. The fire is no threat to me as it is still miles and miles away from me but I can see a good chunk of the smoke rising over the ridge still.

Here is a link with some photos.

I suppose it isn't impossible it could get to me but it is probably a good 20 miles from me so I'm not to worried about it.

Hope it doesn't head your way again Kellen. We've been watching the one up in NorCal at Weed that we drove through on the I5 a few weeks ago. That one got into the town and has burned over 150 homes and the school etc. Stay safe mate!

Yea I normally stop in Weed when I am heading up north. Its the last place you can pump your own gas before you get into Oregon. They must think that one was arson as they are offering $10,000 for info on how it was started.

This fire near me is getting out of control. It is now 71,000 acres and growing quickly, just last night it grew 43,000 acres. The smoke is quite heavy in the air outside right now. It has even made the BBC.
