Cargiant aren't 'blocking' Old Oak and the AirAsia Arena. They're looking to relocate and the regeneration will happen. They're simply (1/2)

if they're involved in some way surely that would remove some obstacles?

In what sense is a stadium for a professional club a 'community facility'? It's a commercial development. The development doesn't need a football stadium, Wembley is just down the road. Only QPR need a football stadium.

I'm not quite as cynical as yourselves and others yet Stan, but if the commercial development really is the money shot as opposed to the football side of things - should we not expect them to just buy Car Giant?

Good call. It's net worth is about £82m, considerably more than QPR (players plus stadium minus £177m debt and rising). Car Giant is the biggest second hand car dealership in the world, not just a garage forecourt. But still tiny for Mittal.

Surely some kind of joint proposal is the way forward on this, but that means diluting the profits.....

I think you're right SB - I think Fernandes et al might have been a little high handed in their dealings so far and probably a bit presumptuous over what the outcome will be. However.. i think the fact that 20 - 30,000 local people are going to turn up every second week to support the local club makes the council etc view football as a community event even if the stadium itself isn't strictly a community facility. The council will definitely want their football teams to stay in the borough, no question.

I went into the club yesterday to contribute to a little video montage about "Keeping West London Ours". I'd hope that with a big enough body of public support behind the project it'd be able to overcome any hurdles Cargiant place in front of it.
 
It's amusing to me that people assume that QPR didn't offer fair market value for the land. No one knows what was offered, it's common business strategy to claim any offer is a lowball.

I imagine what will happen at some point is an independent party will be brought in to determine the fair value of the land.

From my New Stadium Meeting notes:

Network Rail own a significant tract of the remaining land in the area, an exclusive agreement has successfully been negotiated with them; if any details of the duration of this agreement were revealed I missed them. Ongoing discussion with other businesses in the area, such as European Metal Recycling (EMR), are also bearing fruit, although there is waste recycling plant that, due to government legislation, will have to be relocated within the borough.

So are you saying Roller that if Car giant won't play ball the plan could be down scaled?

Depends what we want. A stadium, or a stadium plus 24,000 homes and offices for 55,000 jobs. But this isn't actually about a stadium, its about the whole package which is how our owners get their £177m and counting back, plus a lot, lot more...................if they get hold of the whole site.
 
I remain to be convinced that fernandes and co have misjudged the situation. I suspect that they know something we don't.

I would imagine that as far as the council is concerned, having regular premiership footy in the borough bringing both revenue and recognition worldwide for our part of London, would be massively important for them - thats definitely in our favour. As far as Boris and other parties go, they've probably got slightly less interest in rangers specifically but the thought of a potential events venue being part of the development and all the buzz and revenue that entails, would be of interest to them I'm sure. Anyway, I'm hoping that on a site this big the plans of car giant and Rangers can both be accommodated. i certainly dont want to end up in bloody hilllingdon.

What surprised me most from that is learning that we have a Chief Operating Officer. News to me, but perhaps I've just missed it.

Just looked up the club staffing list. Over 50 people involved in the academy. 2 scouts.

We may not be happy with some of the players who have been 'scouted' but those two are a lot more productive in terms of first team players than the academy mob.

Chief Operating Officer was unpresentable in the BBC video, can't talk properly and what's with the stupid hair?. Mendes OTOH came across as serious and with considerable backing, this isn't going to end well if we go down this course of action. Personally I'd get Mendes on board and clean out some of the parasites that are ****ing up Rangers.

This **** has been coming for a long time, one hardly needed a crystal ball to see it.
