We could change our name to Tigers, change our kit to 'lucky' red and have all our players wear 'lucky' No.8 on their shirts and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to our popularity in Asia. Anyone who thinks it would, has a very low opinion of the intelligence of the average Asian and knows nothing about marketing a heritage brand overseas. All of which is academic, as the name isn't changing anyway, though The Tigers is still available if anyone wants to use it.
It's actually quite racist to assume Asians in the Far East will be interested in a football club because it has "Tigers" in the name. It's just as bad as changing your name to "Hull City Fried Chicken" and claiming black people all across the world will be interested. Allam's marketing 'ideas' are based on offensive stereotypes of Asian people.
Also, I don't think Allam is a particularly stupid man. I think he's a lying, vindictive bastard with an agenda to get rid of the word "City" because of his spat with Hull City Council. He's not doing this because of marketing in the Far East, he's doing it because he wants to make a point that nobody (including HCC) tells him no. The FA have told him no, and so have we. Stick to your promises, old man, and **** off.
but black people would support us all over if we were called hull city fried chicken instead of hull tigers, hull fwied wice?
I go to Africa a lot on business and if you called us "Hull City Bob Marley" then the world would be our oyster, he is revered all over West Africa.
It’s racial stereotyping and at the very least patronising to the extreme. It’s lowest common denominator stuff and distasteful. Hence why Allam’s ‘evidence’ for the name change satiates to idiots.
Asians do not have any local connection to teams in England, so they do what our 'extra' 15,000 supporters did before we started doing well........they support a successful team For English teams, I would say 99% of Asians support Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool........Man City came to the party too recently to show any sizeable support , but that is starting to grow. Maybe if Allam changed our name to Men Utd, Barselona, Reel Madrid.......he might attract some support from overseas
Was in Burma(Myanmar) a couple of years ago and walked out of their main airport to see an enormous advertising board showing Messi in full Barcelona gear holding an energy drink. Smaller versions of the ad. were seen as we moved around the country. We only saw a few people wearing replica shirts and all were Barcelona.
Plus: The FA will not overturn the appeal Even if they did, the name change would unlikely generate extra income which would force Allam to think of another "business plan" I don't really care what name appears on a scoreboard I booed at 19:04 because I go to matches to support the team, not to have a go at the owner. Cue venom.
By booing you helped kill the atmosphere, thus the team received less support than they should have done. Might be worth thinking before your act like a mindless cretin next time.
Booing is commonplace in a football ground whether booing a crap decision by the referee or an opposition player for time wasting. If there was a pro Allam or pro name change, those same offended city fans would be the first to start booing at their "fellow" fans.
Liverpool v Chelsea, Stoke v Manchester United or Arsenal v Everton as long as it's the Premier League you'll be happy eh?
Bullshit. Booing is not supportive. We've got our point across by singing the team's name for the last year, we don't resort to booing. First time you lot pipe up it's to boo. Can't wait to hear you at Newcastle.
