It was a lovely strike against West Ham (and he had one wrongly disallowed). So he can find space...wasn't that regarded as one of Rickie's talents. A striker who takes his chances is exactly what we want...we needed too many chances last season.
Reading back on my posts through the summer, I'm pleased that I remained calm and excited about what was happening. I know it's early days but I can't believe others were panicking about relegation, Pelle, Bertrand etc!
One of the secrets of being a striker is being in the right place at the right time. Then it does look like they're on a plate. Vin
When I played I always made it look like they were on a plate for me. That's what my teammates must have meant when they said I always made a meal of it.
Yep. The very best strikers just seem to have an instinct for it. For example, Pelle's goal against WHU [he just happened to be running into exactly the right place], and the best one I've seen recently is Diego Costa's third [?] goal against Swansea, when he ran in on goal just as Ramires aimed his own shot. It was a striker's thing-to-do, but he was starting to run just as Ramires started swinging his leg to hit the ball. Consequently, he was two yards ahead of the defenders when the ball arrived at the poaching space to pop in. Brilliant.
Yeah, I'm not saying he won't have a good season, I'm just saying that he had an open goal for the 2nd goal against Newcastle, the first one was 6 yards from the goal, but he did well to out jump the defenders by him. West Ham and Millwall goals were good.
I think the header was outstanding. Mark of a good forward when they can hang in the air like that and nod the ball carefully into a corner.
