Hi all, although i've been reading a while i'm a new poster to the forum, partly due to forgettin me password to the original account I set up <hitmeselfintheheadsmiley>. Anyway back on point, I noticed in one of the threads yesterday o/t mentioned that he was currently doing his coaching badges, I am booked in to do my level 1 in the next couple of months and was just wondering if I could get a bit of advice on what to expect, also what level are you upto at the minute o/t? Cheers, all info greatly appreciated

Was thinking about doing some badges this season but OT's reminder of how ridiculous the FA's set up made me rethink, will have a go when I'm older and all those old farts that run the FA have died and been replaced by someone with common sense.

    I wouldn't hold your breath!

The only reason why i'm not doing any badges is because of the state the FA is in and it's not going to change until we crash out of the Euro's next year and the media climbs on the back of the FA again <doh>

Lvl 1 is about health and safety with kids as well as the administration aspect of a football. Took me a month to complete. You do some practical skills as well with kids like heading, passing etc...

I failed the optional youth part as we ran a different training scheme to the FA. Cost me £150...

Lvl 2 is about learning to be a coach with all aspects of training and takes about 7 months. I'm on this bit now and should be done in January 2012.

Yeah due to only being 15/16 at the time and not coming from a family able to fund such things I decided not to take the next step to number2

I don't want to put people off of doing the courses. I'm doing it to spend time with miniOT and her new friends from the football club.

Its all good fun and you get to tell people that you're a qualified football manager at the end of it :)

I do plan to do it in the near future but I'm quite busy right now so I was going to put it off for a couple of years anyway, to be honest.

Maybe later on in life i would consider doing this and actually come out of it being getting a job as a coach and I would have done this a few years ago but im now paying £5k to be a games designer and also paying £7k for my student loan...oh the joy :(

Shoulda guessed as much <doh> <ok>. was hopin it'd be a bit more on the practical side like, am doin it for similar reasons, no teams or owt over where me sister lives and bothe her kids are football mad (my fault apparantly). Would love to be able to earm a living out of it tho, make a change to actually enjoy work. Thanks alot lads

just finished off my UEFA B (level 3) Level 1 is practical, not sure who thinks different, yes there is folder work, basically intro to the way FA want to develop players - LTPD is there big thing. You learn some basic drills/fun games aimed at young kids primarily. It is one of these you will deliver in your assessment phase. Level 1 is a good way to start for sure, still use some of the stuff I learned back then in coaching I do now.

Hope this helps, and also if you need advice nearer the time let me know!
