As soon as I started thinking about driving this circuit, the frustration that corner has caused me was the first thing I thought of. I'm sure it's too tight for F1 requirements.
It's the circuit I found to be the most difficult to get a good set-up balance for, but I used to love the singapore sling and the section from turn 14 - 21, my biggest problem was pitting, my races have ended permanently there a few times
I think Singapore's a pretty good circuit in terms of design but (as was the case with the Beijing track in Formula E, actually) it's got a lot of corners that are just too tight, not in the Lowes hairpin "this is ridiculous but challenging" sense but in the "pointless and frustrating" sense. I'd like that corner under the bridge if it were replicated on a track with a decent run-off area rather than a wall, I spend every race thinking it's only a matter of time before someone ends up in it and brings out the safety car or gets the race red flagged..
I think so, although admittedly I can't quite remember exactly where the crash occurred. I'm sure Massa went into the wall on entrance to the corner we're on about, but I can't for the life of me find any footage of it. May not have been him.
Singapore's not really a race for the fans, IMO, but for the spectacle and so to pull in the casual viewer. It's a very telegenic race and that's about as generous as I can be towards it, really. I do enjoy the spectacle of it though; it's truly awesome to look at. As for Azerbaijan, I'm not optimistic but I'll try and keep an open mind, even though I find it hard to think beyond Bernie and greed
IIRC Bruno Senna crashed there by hitting a car that was already in the barrier. I actually don't have a huge issue with this race. It may be one of the races that cares more about how it looks than how it races, but at least there is a track wide enough to pass (unlike Monaco) and , even if it causes a lot of safety cars, close walls provide that "one mistake and its over" excitement that car parks like Abu Dhabi lack.
Damn pit entry done me good and proper a few times too Apart from that, I quite like driving that Circuit, lucked into a decent setup when I used to play it on F1 2010 Waiting for F1 2014 for the PS4...
Personally, if possible, I'd get rid of that fiddly section when they go under the grand stand and just go straight on from there to the final corner... However, I guess that maybe an issue if they don't have enough of a run off for the final corner! http://www.formula1.com/races/in_detail/singapore_929/circuit_diagram.html Get rid of turns 18-21 and have a straight from current turns 17 to 22... be much better!
Seems Renault are a little worried about Fuel consumption in Singapore, they say they're expecting to be right on the 100kg limit. Could see a big difference in quali and race paces here.
If fuel consumption is an issue then both Renault and Ferrari could be in trouble, not only is the Merc the most powerful Power Train/Unit, its almost one of the most efficient, was expecting them to drive away from the rest of the field but could be even more of a stroll in the park now, if they don't take each other off the track and remain reliable, they could finish a good 30s plus ahead of the next best!
It goes in the middle of the track. If you land on free parking then you can collect it. Its an unofficial rule but it makes it more fun........
