Drawing the thread back on topic and away from sisu's unput (shocking that the BRITISH Broadcasting Company, might have a slightly tilted view on the vote btw, lol) The last view days appears to have favoured the Yes vote, the Nationalistic verve seems to be to the fore and I reckon the vote might be slightly closer than I did maybe a week or so ago. There could still be a surprise here......
I don't think that there will be a surprise on Thursday. It's so easy to wrap yourself in a flag but when push comes to shove the Scots have always proved themselves to be a very conservative (with a small c) people. They like to call it 'canny' but it's the same thing!
I hope you're right Dave. However, I wouldn't want to be in Scotland this weekend if the vote does end up being No. As there's going to be some very angry and disappointed Scots around for a long while after this.......
Whatever the outcome of the vote there are going to be a lot of disappointed scots. The one sure thing to come out of this referendum is a divide in the Scottish public at will cause problems and bitterness for years to come.
The reason the Falklands were not abandoned was because of its ideal location with regards to Antarctica and its wealth of fossil fuels Dave, gives Britain a toehold in the area ahead of other countries hoping to cash in on the oil and minerals and will make an ideal place for a refinery and storage. There are exploratory rigs in the Irish sea at the moment so you never know but there might be use for the derelict Harland and Wolf shipyard if they find an oil deposit large enough to exploit. But don't count your chickens dave.

I reckon a no vote tbh, I don't think Scots are that lucky given their last few decades of "economic prosperity" Am sure people are acclimatised to the "system" even if it is detrimental people will still fear the unknown, kind do like Stockholm syndrome
I still think the NO vote will win, I think enough people still feel unconvinced and uncertainty will result in people sticking with what they know. It's just a shame that it's going to be a close run thing and cause a divide amongst the Scottish people. Ideally enough NO voters turn up to not make it too closely run to avoid any ongoing effects.
Whatever the outcome on Thursday, the real costs of this referendum will be far more than financial and be very long lasting. Most English people haven't woken up yet to the fact that their interests have/are and will continue to be (it appears) sacrificed to the demands of less than 5% of the UK population
Yeah the implications of this referendum will be much deeper rooted than just whether Scotland achieves independence.
Agreed.. Think the whole thing is a shambles. And an absolute disgrace. The entire Scottish population are being sold a lie. Anytime any logical arguement gets made its cast off as scaremongering. Also I believe Scotland represents 10% of the population and 32% of land mass.
I think it's about 8% and that Dave was referring to the fact that any yes vote would only get not much more than 50% of the vote, so 4%-5% of the population (I was going to say the same thing til I worked it out.)
