In the only other club sale news I have followed lately, offers were (supposedly?) made for the LA Clippers which were far in excess of what the club was valued at. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/23/report-ballmers-2-billion-clippers-offer-nearly-double-what-bank-of-america-valued-team-at/ From what little I can tell, valuations of clubs are rather mythical in that there's little reason to suppose they will reflect their sales price. My guess is that whether the market is a buyers' or sellers' market may influence the price much more than most would expect. Having said all that, I have no information about the price Cain Hoy will offer, or even if they will make an offer. But if someone offered $2 billion for the LA Clippers, it would hardly be shocking if someone offered 1 billion pounds or so for Spurs.
No, because I think you will find that the greedy Glaziers have already stripped out all the profits.
Wrong. You're missing the point, Little Luke. How much is £ity worth, now? Yet, when the Arabs took it over, everyone thought they were mad. Not now. Spurs is the ideal club for the next Arabs/Russians to take over, because we are the only viable top London club that can be taken over at a snip (and £1 billion to these chaps is a snip - trust me, I work with these types). We have everything that a vain Arab would want - top London glamour club on the cusp of greatness, but never achieving it, with a rival that has always beaten us to top honours (in recent times). The Arabs that took over £ity did so because their egos needed to prove themselves on the greatest stage - and they don't come much greater than shoving United into the shadows. The next great arena for such colossal shows of vanity are with the London clubs, and particularly topping Chavs and Gooners. Which London club would you use - if you were a family with unlimited wealth and resources - if you wanted to prove a point? Exactly. I rest my case. So, Little Luke, it isn't what Spurs is worth by any current objective standard; it's what our potential worth is to those who have a point to prove in the vanity-stakes.
You are so much better up against the scouse and goons haig. You fall apart when it comes to united though. A shame.
You could probably get arsenal at a billion and if you are spending that kind of money you could probably cough up a little more and have the biggest of the lot. The thing is, nobody is spending a billion on the club itself. A few 100million maybe. These arab types want failing clubs who they can snap up cheaply. See chelsea and city for example. Are spurs a train wreck of a club?
" are spurs a train wreck of a club" Yes we have been for 2 decades with the brainless Sugar , the Walking dead twins, tight fisted Levy/ disinterested Lewis . 2 league cups in a quarter of a century has been our darkest hour in terms of success . Maybe we will have some real investment which a club of such history and elegance deserves. Put it this way it's hard to get any worst.
A billion quid is only 18 Di Maria's....or 20 Torres' s...or 72 Bentley's (as in David) That makes us a bargain
A certain Johnathan Goldstein is the man leading Cain Hoy's bid, a lifelong Spurs supporter. At least we would have somebody who's interested in us. I was talking to a Doncaster Rovers supporting mod of another website last night who said that in the last two seasons two failed takeover bids happened. One was by the lead singer of the band One Direction. When I said Tottenham is up for sale at a billion he said that's the sort of figure Doncaster is up for so I don't know about club's worth.
l "Goldstein is a lifelong Spurs Supporter ." We heard it all before, I am sure they will play that card to soften opinion . Anyone seen him, how often does he attend , sit in his zone, has a drink with him ? all pretty cloudy if not a mirage .
I suspect Doncaster was up for a sale for a million, rather than a billion, although would One Direction know the difference? If Spurs are worth one billion, it rules out Chas & Dave buying the club.
Spurs are not worth a billion. Someone may invest a billion but they will buy spurs for sub 400million. Nobody is going to overpay for what some have alreadt admitted, is a poor business. Nobody. Investors do these deals on the cheap. Unless Tottenhams future isnt their concern? As someone said, property values are very high in london, a massively over priced rip off. Buying a football club that owns land in the city could be tempting for developers. A bit of stick from the fans wont put them off.
In accordance with takeover panel rules, Cain Hoy now have until 5pm on 10th Oct to either ****, or get off the pot. We shall see!....
Merely posting what I read Sid Fidd. The other interested party for Doncaster was a hedge fund from Belize, not particularly salubrious but it too collapsed. I'm going to google Goldstein. Well, I just googled and he's in charge of Cain's European investment, born in London and a season ticket holder.
Why is everyone so sceptical of the 1b figure? Admittedly, there's some question about whether its pounds or dollars. But Spurs turnover for 2012-13 was almost £150m - that's almost 40% more than Man U's was in 2004-05 (when Glazer took over). Add to that significant assets in land and property (which has increased in recent years as we've bought up property around WHL), potential to increase commercial revenue, the new tv rights deals, etc. and it doesn't seem so ridiculous.
