Aston Villa legend John Carew has predicted the team could battle for a Champions League spot after their sensational start to the season.

The Holte End favourite was among a host of former claret and blue stars to take to Twitter with words of praise after the side’s stunning 1- 0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The victory takes Villa to a heady second in the Premier League and Paul Lambert’s men are now undefeated after four games.

After the Liverpool match, Norwegian Carew tweeted to his 62,000 follows: “My Villans on fire. Champions League next season :D”

Meanwhile, fellow Villa idol Paul McGrath was also jubilant following the win, thanks to a Gabby Agbonlahor goal. The former Irish international – known as ‘God’ to claret and blue fans – tweeted: “Aston Villa we can Believe! One very proud man here! Delighted for everyone connected with the club, some display of team work.’’

Meanwhile, talkSPORT host and former Villa striker and life-long fan Stan Collymore told his Twitter followers: “Well done The Babis, very proud of the boys! #UTV #AVFC #VTID’’

He later added: “We’re gonna win the league #UTV!”

They've not started too badly to be honest, I can't see them keeping up this type of form over their next 3 games. I'd imagine by Xmas they'll be around 8-9th place.

I had them down for a shocker of a season, but they've started very well.

This seems to be a common issue. 4 games in and people are saying Europe etc. I remember in the past they never used to show a league table until at least 6 or 8 games had been played. I heard Talksport saying "Swansea should now be looking for a top half finish - probably top 8 after the start they have had" - This was after they'd played three games FFS!

We sit a point from the bottom of the league but that means nothing at this stage. If we'd lost all 4 and sat bottom of the PL then that'd be different but there have been a lot of promising things from the matches so far. There have also only been 4 games!! (I will keep re-iterating that until someone takes it on board). Villa have started well but they need to make sure that things keep going if they lose a couple and that's when it is difficult. You learn a lot more about your side from their reaction to a defeat than you do when they win a few on the bounce.

John Carew, wannabe actor must have got his lines mixed up. I wouldn't take anyone wearing a gun holster as a fashion statement too seriously. Let alone a full on alkie nor a serial dogger.

Villa, bunch of ****ers, although they have started well. I don't know what Senderos is playing at but he's gonna make player of the month at this rate. Defensively, he's been rock solid.

That including the ban he is likely to get for kicking Balotelli?

That was very naughty, but professional foul rather than dangerous. In a former life he would have been 10 yards off him. Someone has told him how to defend, all of a sudden.

Ballotelli made such a meal of it though, what a prick. The boy who cried wolf right there.

just so it's clear, I was taking the piss about him getting player of the month.....

Spot on, and Ballotelli should have been given more protection, no wonder he looks dissinterested, the lunge by that twit Hutton should have been punished also. Refs are getting worse if that is possible.

To be fair, Carew's tweet was clearly tongue-in-cheek. I doubt Collymore genuinely believes they will win the league either ...

Without wishing to come across as being racist I find it difficult to take anything a black Norwegian has to say seriously.

Whatever makes you think that could be construed as racist?

Aye, no doubt you're right marra but I don't mind being prejudged.
At the end of the day I'll say what I feel.
I'm not toeing the party line for anybody.

Hows Lollie getting on, any headway being made?

I will never toe any party line either, it's probably for the best I don't post much as my views would upset many. OK for people mind to have dual accounts and post daft comments when I was on the 2 week cancer program a couple of months ago. They know who they are and I ****ing do to thanks to technology and a decent mod. Lollie's just the same mate, it ain't going to change, we got her new wheelchair, she can sit for 1/2 hours but can push it for 3/4 hours, the problem is she suffers later and I do to with the care, looking after her. I'm resigned to it now mate but with every breath in my body, I will look after her and Ella..

Would be easier to walk at 57 but for me the love makes it easier to stay..

Hope all is well in your camp D? A sound lad in every way..<ok>
