Don't know if this has been discussed here, but I was wondering on everyone's thoughts on who should be our Captain this season? Given the influx on new players, I would think it unfair to put any of them as Captain. So in my eyes (providing one continues to play) only two people meet the criteria on being our Captain this season.

    (1) Christian Dailly or (2) Johnnie Jackson.

Didn't think he was that fat.

    "None of the above"

Hopefully one of our New CBs will fit the bill here or why not Stephens

Wouldn't you want a more longer serving Charlton player to be Captain?

Really struggling with who I think should be captain. I really don't think Jackson should be captain, I don't even feel he should ideally be in the starting 11. But as has been said, it should really be a long-serving Charlton player, only problem is, none of the current squad (out of those who have been here over a year) in my opinion are good enough. I rate the likes of Elliot and Wagstaff but neither would make a good captain.

I'm gonna just hope that we bring in a new CB who is half decent and a team-leader.

most of the guys mentioned either shouldn't get in the team or might not be part of the squad for too much longer

Captain material doesn't mean long serving does it

Hollands was captain for Bournemouth I believe so that's a possibility?

From that list Dailly would be the one I'd pick if there wasn't 'None of the Above' but while I really hope he stays I don't want to see him being automatic first choice.

It's leadership qualities rather than long service that count. If you signed a late career Bryan Robson or Tony Adams you'd make them captain, as they are leaders, whereas Curbs making Rufus captain was bizarre - brilliant player, legend etc but far too quiet and introspective to be a leader on the pitch. Looking at his wikipedia profile, Hollands was also captain of the Chelsea youth and reserve teams, so he sounds a contender. Assuming he can get into the team that is, with the number of midfielders we have!

You can't make a goalie captain as he should already be a leader, and his presence would not be felt everywhere on the pitch. Oliver Kahn is the only exception to that rule.

I always feel a captain should be someone who knows the club, but I wouldn't dream of handing Wagstaff or Solly the armband. Similarly, the captain should be a fixture in the team.Dailly is past the stage of being a regular first teamer and Jackson cannot be a certain starter every week. BWP doesn't have the aura of captain about him either. No way Benson or Hayes.

No one has yet mentioned Alonso, an experienced head but also likely to be a regular starter. I know that goes against what I have just said but why not him?

Probably best to wait and see who remains post today. It should be an outfield player who knows what the valley is all about not someone whose first game will be in August. May be an arguement for having a club captain (senior player like CD or JS who may not always be on the field and has the captain's armband when only he plays. Then who ever is most motivational on days when he is not on the field would get the arm band. That way CP can try out the leadership skills of a few for the future without the insult of taking it off them.

Looks like Hollands or Alonso (if assured of a regular place in the team). Jackson and Dailly are not assured of regularly first-team spots. I guess Holland. Has been captain at each level he has played.

I am obviously delighted to have been nominated for the role of captain of Charlton Athletic FC for the 2011/12 season. I think I will bring great sarcasm to the job, as well as a constant sense of exasperation with my two companions, Baldrick Evina and Lieutenant George Colthurst St Bradley Wright-Phillips. I will of course attempt to get out of all duties that may involve the risk of having to play football.
