Drop Green? Drop Clint - Can Traore ever get back and defend? Play Ned? Drop Phillips or give him time Drop Charlie and give Vargas as run or play the same 11 who looked good at home against Sunderland who will not be unlike Stoke ?
I'd drop Green (Won't happen) Why play Ned? (Caulker and Ferdinand are better) Drop Ciint - tough one - where's Suk Yung? Drop Phillips (missed 2 absoloute sitters when we were 1-0 down away from home and was poor yesterday) Charlie - tough one - got no service yesterday but Vargas looked sharp - find a place for both of them
Same team as Sunderland though Philips our Hoilett to make way for Vargas and see what he can offer in a front three. Though its Harry so expect 19 changes, each as unlikely as the last. I think Hill is less likely to get bullied than Traore against quite a physical side.
my team Green (only just) Isla Rio Caulker Traore Sandro Barton Fer Hoillet Vargas Austin Clint, Ned, Henry, Phillips, OBZ
I would not drop Green but he should be on his last warning. Drop Clint too bloody right. Play him at centre back or don't play him. Hope Yun gets a go. I would like to see Ned played maybe instead of Rio. Would love to see Vargus and Austin paired together up front. Phillips need a fair go.
What's the downer on Green. I don't think he can be faulted for the goals. The first one there is nothing a keeper can do in that situation. Fluke. The save which he parried was moving all over the place and was a save which he then reacted to very quickly and denied a certain goal. He was let down by his defense and the team as a whole were shocking, but I would not be in a rush to replace Green just because McCarthy appears to be waiting in the wings.
Peoples can see things so differently. Everyone i have talked to seem to think that 1-0 and 3-0 goals were mistakes by Green and im with them 100 per cent. Ok, our defence has been awful in our away matches but still...Spurs and ManU had 12-14 (depends on the source) shots on target and Green has let 8 in !!!
Subtle change - ---Sandro ---Barton--- -Vargas -- Fer -- Hoillett- ---------Austin--------- For me this give us more width and also a more natural position for Vargas and Fer (he needs cover behind him IMO). Vargas and Isla should be a little more used to playing with each other like that as well. No need to change the keeper after one game, if we did that the whole team should be dropped.
Not sure about the first one, he saw little of it. Clint went up in front of him...I think we all expect Clint to get something on it but he missed it by inches (PS..I am cactually not blaming Clint for this...itt was such a good free kick/such a lucky free kick that the angle it came in tempted the players to go for it (and Clint got there first) but was 1/2 inches too high for him...sailed over. Green could only respond after that moment...and so had no chance (an excellent/lucky strike) The second Herrera goal he should have done better...the Rooney goal near post goal is the one I do blame him for.. but the defence left him with no cover for the last Mata goal. No not dropped yet, but on a warning
Bit harsh on Green for me. We missed Barton and Mutch's energy yesterday, so if fit the only change I would make is Traore for Hill. I would stick with Phillips because I felt last season he was slow getting going but just before he got injured he really look quick, strong and a threat.
------------------McCarthy----------------- Isla---Onouha—Caluker---Suk-Young ---------Sandro--------Barton------------ Phillips---------Fer---------------Adel ----------------Austin-------------------- If Harry cant get the players up for this one then we really do need to start thinking about whether he’s good enough to be our manager Hate Mark Hughes with a passion. Crowd needs to be up for it and players owe us a performance Worry is he wont pick that team- Can even see him switching to 3-5-2 again
Nice answers everyone - so far - well done Everyone has listened to the question and responded to my thoughts No one has Niko in the team ! Lots of you have Phillips still with a view that he needs games which I personally agree with Long term I think he will get his name on the sheet before Hoilett I have to agree Rob Green has been steady (I only go to home games I admit) so to drop him after 1 game is harsh No one has mentioned Adel either !
He's in this line-up - I'd like to see him start a match too, but would prefer Vargas in there instead of Phillips.
Green (Last chance for him though) Isla, Caulker, Ferdinand, Traore/Yun Barton, Fer, Mutch Taarabt, Austin, Vargas Subs: Mccarthy, Hoillet, Phillips, Onouha, Sandro, Zamora, Hill
Dont know an awful lot about Vargas- but the media eye article on the official said he’s effective as a striker but wasted when out wide. Seen enough of Phillips last year and in flashes this year to suggest he’s worth sticking with in his natural position As for Adel over Hoilett it’s a no brainer!!! Neither gives much at all defensively but who could honestly argue that Hoilett will give you more going forward than Adel?!!!?!!!!
Hill played against Manure because he is a better defender than Traore. Traore (or Yun) will play against Stoke (hopefully) because they offer more going forward. Dropping Green is just plain stupidity. Team selection for the Stoke game will depend on too many different things to really predict the eleven. I would assume that we play the same sort of formation as we played against Sunderland. Vargas and Charlie up front is the only thing that looks (in my eyes) to be a given, but then again...
