As long as Merseyside goes with it, fine by me Disagree there tbh. I think people in Scotland would need to vote if there is a Yes vote, to ensure we get a say on who is to negotiate for us. Certainly, plenty of people who voted SNP in 2010 to support independence would probably want the chance to elect some MPs from a credible party to represent them in negotiations with the UK, or at least undermine the SNP's attempt to monopolise the policies of the Yes campaign. Salmond and co would probably try to argue that the MSPs should do the negotiating, but a big vote for Labour in 2015 would undermine his desire to build the Scotland he wants, rather than the one the people who live in Scotland want. Either way, it will be interesting. Particularly for parties like Labour, who would have to campaign in the UK on the basis of getting the best for the UK in negotiations, whilst Scottish Labour candidates campaign on the basis of getting the best for Scotland. I'm still hoping sanity prevails and the country as a whole tells Salmond to shove his fantasy land vision as far up his fat arse as he can.
the tanks are on the border as we speak and the hangman from braveheart is ready to do a wallace on salmond.
all the mps sent south of the boarder after 2015 should be moved to tower of london and then executed as traitors to the crown. then we should send in the heavy cavalry cos the scots can only waves sticks and moon with their kilts. we've all seen braveheart.
David Beckham seeking media attention again. [h=5]In a last ditch attempt to preserve the United Kingdom, Olympic ambassador David Beckham has weighed in on the Scottish Independence debate. [/h]The former England football Captain urged Scots to vote ‘No’ and to save the Union on 18 September. “The achievement that gave me the most pride was to captain and play for my country,” he wrote in an open letter, recalling the now famous Euro 2000 qualifier that saw Scotland beat England 1-0 at Wembley. Ultimately, they lost due to the 2-0 deficit from the first leg match at Hampden. “I saw that same pride and passion in every Scottish player and fan whenever we played each other, it was a common bond that I have always related to and admired,” he continued. “Representing the United Kingdom with our Olympic bid I felt that same pride and passion. We worked together to bring the greatest sporting event of them all to our nation and I was thrilled to watch us competing together against the world. Scottish Independence: For and against “I took as much satisfaction in seeing Sir Chris Hoy or Andy Murray win gold as I did watching Jess Ennis and Mo Farah do the same in the Olympic Stadium.” He went on to admit that it is not his place to tell Scots how to vote, but warned the “huge effect” the results of the referendum could have on “each and every one of us in the United Kingdom”. He added: “We want to let you know how very much we value our relationship and friendship. “Of course regardless of your decision that will never change, however, my sincere hope is that you will vote to renew our historic bond which has been such a success over the centuries and the envy of the entire world. “What unites us is much greater than what divides us. Let's stay together.” He is really going all out for a knighthood even though him and his talentless bint live in America these days.
i think beckham deserves a vote for most pointless, least considered and most ignored contribution to the camapaign.
BBC and it's clever little tricks. BBC report Mark Carney bank of England said "A currency union would be incompatable with an independent Scotland." What Carney actually said was "a currency union would be incompatable with sovereignty." See what they did there? You can lose some sovereignty and retain independence, Germany and France share a currency and so gave up some sovereignty but they are independent. Ireland gave up sovereignty, and every other country in the EU, to take the Euro. They remain independent nations. So, regardless of the bulls**t games and lies of the No camp and BBC's obvious Buckingham palace no campaign Scotland can relinquish some sovereignty with a curency union and retain independence. A currency union is being shot down for the simple purpose of swaying a no vote.
Why should they get our currency? Please post a 5000 word reply devoid of paragraphs explaining your reasoning.
It's not "your" currency lad. it belongs to a bank that is not even owend by British people. Surely you knew that no? The Bank of England owns it and the bank of England is not owned by Britain, England or Brits. The word Sterling, you can have that, that's yours but the actual currency, no not yours
Really? http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/publications/Pages/foi/disc091106.aspx "The Bank is a public sector institution wholly-owned by the government - the entire capital of the Bank is, in fact, held by the Treasury solicitor on behalf of HM Treasury" Seems the Bank of England disagrees with you...
As a fiction the bank is nationally owned but.. what is a building and a name without money? not a bank, just a building, where does the money come from? up to 97% of the UK’s money supply is privately controlled being in the form of interest bearing loans created by the big commercial banks.
What the **** are you waffling on about now? The pound is our currency and the BoE is state owned. Stop talking out your hoop lad ffs.
I was incorrect in that comment, the bank of England issues it, but the money supply, is privately run by large multinational banks who essentially control how much cash there is and therefor control the falsehood that is inflation
