I assume that any Utd fans that accused City of 'buying the league' have now accepted that there's no longer anything special about their club and they're no different to any other club that just throws more and more money at a problem until success is magically achieved.
Fight fire with fire. High time United joined the battle after standing in the sidelines watching city and Chelsea ( and lesser extent RS and arsenal) having the field to themselves
You dont understand "buying the league", spending your own money is acceptable, spending a sugar daddies money is "buying the league" only UTD and Arsenal have won the league buy spending their own money.
Whichever way you cut it, you've reached a point where it seems that the only way you will achieve anything meaningful is to spend vast amounts of money, same as City, Chelsea, Real Madrid. The fact that the club has generated the money themselves does make it more respectable but it's still buying success by spending obscenely. Where the money comes from doesn't make a lot of difference, just my personal opinion of course. I'm aware of the sugar daddy vs. generated revenue argument but to me it's not the difference between black or white, it's shades of grey.
Yeh that's a fair point. I think what worries me is that the identity of the club, the ethos that's usually instilled by seasoned players and those associated with the club, may fall on deaf ears to players brought in (on big wages and individual talent) to meet the need for quick success rather than to fit the club itself. What identity do clubs like Chelsea or Man City have? Little that I can see and that comes from the players as much as the club. I'd be disappointed if we ended up like that.
To be fair, those signed this window and mata last winter seem to be pretty chuffed about it. Falcao looks in awe of it all. Rojo and herrera went throygh some **** to get here so clearly wanted to move. Who knows in the future but for me, weve got some of our identity back.
Yeh tbf it seemed the other way to me a couple of weeks ago, but I agree those mentioned are well grounded and seem to be keen to play for the club. Just don't want to end up like City or Chelsea that's all.
I dont know about you treble but im quietly confident about the future of united. Short and long term. Still plenty of work but a year from now? Think we will be in good shape.
United is about attacking football and scoring goals. And it is nice to see the team beating the opposition well. I have had enough of mid or lower placed teams to come to united to boss our team. Last season the players without saf seemed cowed by the crowd instead of being lifted by it. We now have the right players. Players who are big and confident enough to feel they belong to the big stage.
Pretty much. Yesterday our attacking players along with blind doing a clean up job, dominated qpr like we havent seen in years. Regardless of opposition and regardless of outside opinion, it was the single best performance weve had had in ages. We played like a side i used to know. Patient, clinical and in complete control. Long may it continue. Weve got a nice run to build upnsome form and confidence before our rivals. I cant see us playing for a draw this time round.
Angel Di Maria steal the show of Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao at 24 minutes claiming his first goal, his goal was also the reason behind the 4-0 emphatic win over QPR at the end of the match he was voted as the man of the match and no wonder he will the man to make things happen at the Old Trafford. I think Manchester United is finally claiming their second chance. http://www.sbobetimes.com/index.php/blog/8959-red-devils-show-they-deserve-the-second-chance
This is a good point. I have thought about that too. I have no worries that United will ever turn up to be like Chelsea or City. United has a history we can all be proud of. All the history of Busby has been augmented by the almost unimaginable domination of the league over a long period under Ferguson. We also had the emergence of the class of 1992 with the glamour of Beckham, the longetivity and greatenss of Giggs, And scholes as a great midfield genius ect. All of this have added to the romance of United all over the world. BUT we have also needed the likes of Ronaldo, Cantona, RVN, Yorke, Schmeichel, Cole, Rooney, RVP (expensive recruits then) to add to the team's homegrown talent. I have always thought that Ferguson's subsequent domination and the class of 1992 were unique and we should not expect this to happen again in our lifetime. Yes, we have a legacy to preserve but that legacy can only be preserved at the top. Can SAF's principles of bringing in homegrown players be nurtured in mid table without CL football? The best way to do it is to have a total review of the team and squad (currently in progress), then when a strong first team is established then to add home grown players one at a time IF/WHEN they are good enough. (I am sorry to say that I have never included Welbeck in that category so totally supported LVG for that). I think and hope LVG will be keeping an eye on the youth academy and the emerging talent. He has done that at other clubs. He has said he has always promoted youth. But his priority at the moment is to get United back in the CL and then to win the title. I have no doubt that United will not go the way of Chelsea and City. Tyler Blackett is a great positive sign and I am keeping my fingers crossed he does really well.
