Fat arse Joseph playing a blinder there - coolmore had a great weekend haha. The sooner they get rid of him and stop all this nepotism and get the best jockey Ryan Moore the better - Joseph should be riding 3 mile novice hurdlers over Plumpton
I didnt even look at the race to be honest but 14s Brown Panther seems an awfully big price, doesnt stay the Gold Cup trip but deserved a Group 1, high class on his day. They gave him plenty of rope but he wasnt stopping and Leading Light was struggling to get past Encke, think he would have probably won today no matter what. Leading Light wasnt at his best and needs further now.
Despite a third-straight defeat for Treve, trainer Criquette Head-Maarek has not ruled out a return trip to Longchamp next month to defend her Arc crown. She said: "I think she ran a good race and we don't have to rule her out for the moment. I need to speak to Sheikh Joaan. She needed the race. She was shorter in her action, she didn't kick like she did in the Arc last year. But knowing she has had feet problems, don't rule her out of the Arc." The trainer also said that the going did not play a role in her defeat: "It's not an excuse for me. It's a little firmer but there is a lot of grass on it, it's not that firm. You can't compare it with the ground when she ran at Ascot." At last a confession.
Cracking day out today at The Curragh. The Robot Boy fella ran a cracker but missed the kick and was beaten a nose for third...Money was recouped when Midterm Break won the sales race for my hosts at 16's...PM hadn't a bean on,thought he needed a bit of cut! Great set up being a guest of an owner at these big events and great to talk to so many other owners and trainers. My hangover mitigated the experience to be fair!..knackered after last nights excesses...easing into monday with a big bottle of Whitewater Brewery Belfast Ale.
The mood down there was muted re Australia. Everyone accepts JO'B rode a poor race and exposed the colt..he rode Australia like he was unbeatable. But tbf Queally almost got the fourth best horse of all time beaten in the SJP at RA with an injudicious ride. I have watched the Treve race and can't pick a single positive out of that run. Also can't get remotely orgasmic about the Prix Niel winner either..Adelaide with a clear passage would have ruffled him and that one is a distance from top class imo. Topsy turvy market changes.
Quite so Eddie...he could have commuted between both venues in the time it took Treve to finish...she could be the heir apparent to Quevega's crown.
Just started my ITV 3 recording of Carry On Loving but got a garden full of Japanese Knotwood to tackle in the morning.
Dont think anyone was surprised that Treve got beat, its been looking likely for a long time now that she is not the same filly, today just confirmed it 100%. I'll still remember her as one of the best fillies ive seen, she was a great 3yo and one of the most impressive Arc winners you are likely to see. Shame what has happened this year but thats the way it goes sometimes and fair play to them for running her again this season when most would have retired her after the Arc.
Who said they wouldn't touch Cursory Glance? Come on own up (a clue: it was Dexter). Don't understand modern jockeys and their tactics. Hughes got beaten at Goodwood (probably by a better horse) but gave himself no chance by making it a 4f sprint. He did it again today. I think he's a good jockey but he should be questioning his ride on Toronado. Do modern horses need it all their own way to win? We had the farce of will he, won't he from Varian on Kingston Hill, there are countless other examples of horses being excused for failing or withdrawn because the conditions are not quite right. I hope Varian now has the guts to put Varian in the Arc. The 2000/Derby form has stayed pretty solid all year and KH looks to be improving. In fact I'd say Epsom classic form looks pretty good this year.
Dexter - why the pop at me ?? Because I gave an honest opinion ? We all know Joseph only gets the leg up on coolmore horses because of his old man - he is a very average jockey at best who struggles to do under 9st - even O'Brien is using his other kids for rides now - and that's not nepotism ?
Roger Varian tried playing poker with Doncaster’s clerk of the course, had his bluff called but the horse won anyway. Should Criquette Head-Maarek have got Longchamp to leave the taps on for Treve? They probably would have obliged her. Kingston Hill has an Arc entry – like Criquette, Varian will be doing a rain dance for the next three weeks. The 2000 Guineas winner has not won since, the third was a middle distance horse warming up for Epsom and the St Leger winner was an also-ran. We will have to disagree about the Epsom form. A moderate Derby winner beat a subsequent moderate St Leger winner. Whilst I am a declared Taghrooda fan, the Oaks form does not look anything special in retrospect and her King George win is starting to look Swiss Cheese.
Quite right Dayo ..all opinions valid. I don't think JO'B had his best moment on Saturday but he's better than average and plenty outside Ballydoyle use him.John Magnier doesn't suffer fools and he if wasn't happy with the lad he'd be jettisoned.
Bustino! I actually said I wouldn't touch her for the Guineas...still wouldn't. I'd be surprised if the second and third didn't reverse the form and I wouldn't be mad about either of those for the 1000 either.
