We have a great strike force , is it time to double down up front for certain games ? When we get hemmed in , lets get it out with a single kick and take the bad passes out of it when coming under "Big Club " pressure . Just a thought .
Bony appears to be a much better at receiving and holding the ball than Gomis. We missed his ability to give us an easy out yesterday and relieve the pressure. Not sure that 2 up front works that well for us. The main problem yesterday was that our midfield was not firing on every cylinder and then faded. This is going to kill us no matter who we are playing. By-passing that is a tactic - but you just can't bang it anywhere you have to hit the target man and give him a chance to control the ball. When you're under a ton of pressure easier said than done.
4-4-2 played in pre season and we were hammered. Monk can not keep on playing Shelvey and hoping he has a decent game, same goes for Taylor. They are occupying two positions we, the fans, have identified as weak since Ben left (LB) and from the Canas falling out for DM. Given the speed we identified, contacted and paid for Fernandez I find it incredible a quality DM (other than Leon) is still missing from the squad. Taylor was not and is not up to standard and Jonjo is not making progress. Ki, who has been fantastic in the first half of each of our games and to a lesser extent Gylfi, needs to perform for the full 90; although their failure to do so may have more to do with players around them than their own shortcomings. Alternative players or formations have to be found. Given the start teams are having 9 points from the next three games and a win against Everton should be expected.
True. Different qualities, we just need to change play slightly when either is on to get the best from them.
Gomis was awesome gathering the ball and holding off players on his own yesterday , imagine both him and Bony doing the same and feeding off each other . We go tFernandez because we kinda knew Chico might go , and it was true .We got Gomis because we thought Bony might go , but he stayed . Lets play to our strengths , and that is our strike force . When we are in "Park the bus "mode , we need to lump it forward to get out of trouble , with 2 quality guys up front , we might build a play with 5 opposing player in our half . What a 4-4- 2 needs , is Britton imo .Not talking plan a , just a plan b to make the big clubs have to re structure
Taylor needs to shape up a bit but I laughed at your suggestion we are missing Canas, that's good comedy. Cheers.
4-4-2 is an option we can use but im not a fan of it. 4-4-1-1 or 4-3-2-1 are my favorites.....but saying that i like to see us use various formations depending who we are playing. i also like changing formations during the match depending how it is going for us....A one trick pony is old school these days and easy for the opposition to work out their game plan all week in training but if you are known as a side who uses various formations then its much harder for your oppositions preparations...
We have never beaten Everton in our history so how anyone can say it is expected that we will beat them is odd. Everton are a good team under Martinez and we will have to be on top of our game to get anything from the game...I see the saints game as a game we will have to pull out all the stops to get anything also....there are no easy games...
4-4-2 is history as far as I see it, and not suited to the strikers we have anyway, playing both Bony and Gomis who are very similar types is flawed, if you are going to make the switch to 2 strikers up front when chasing games, then Emnes has to be the second striker in my view..............
Agree phil, we simply wont do it. As soon as we go with 4 in midfield as well we will give up a lot of possession. Just cant see it ever happening and has been confined to the history books.
Was just reading a BBC article with Williams saying he would like to see Bony and Gomis up front together on occasion ...
4-4-2 may be an option in the odd game but I don't see it happening much if at all. Bony does seem more able to sit a little deeper and play through balls which isn't the way Gomis plays. But I wouldn't have a knee-jerk reaction to yesterday and I doubt Monk will either.
Everton have drawn with Leicester & Arsenal then were hammered by Chelsea before beating WBA. Nothing to write home about so far this season. We are home. We should win. Saying we won't beat them because we never have is bogus. We don't have the same sets of players every time we play. At one time we'd never beaten Manchester United in Manchester - now it's 2 out of 2. Why should we not expect to beat Everton?
I think you maybe confused here, I have always stated that Monk was an intelligent player, intelligent enough to hardly ever get caught in possession, this was his greatest achievement as a player, because he was never the most technically gifted of CB's, or the quickest either.............
Not missing Canas at all as he gave up for Monk (unprofessional) but he was until that point the back up and sometimes partner for Leon and, while not dreadful was prone to off games. Once he made his decision to give up (for whatever reason) it became even more obvious we needed cover / replacement for Leon.
If we don't expect to win games we are in trouble IMO. Man U do expect to beat us which is why there is utter shock when they don't and they work to improve so it doesn't happen again, Chelsea the same. If we just shrug off defeat in games that are eminently winnable there is something wrong with our attitude.
