Dunno what game you were watching, but we got stuffed for the majority of the match. They had 30 attempts at goal. We deserved no points and the 4 - 2 scoreline was quite flattering to us.
With Costa I think Chelsea will easily win the league. He makes a huge difference, and we didn't do too badly considering he was in the team. Chelsea have beaten every team by at least two goals, so we're not really worse than anyone else in that respect. Keep working on the weak points and we'll keep progressing. It's early days but we're already playing well. No shame in losing to a side of Chelsea's quality.
You didn't watch the first half then. First half we more than matched them, second half they stuffed us.
It is you i am thinking never watched the game. the lads gave a good account of themselves considering who we were playing and the super stars they have in their team. there are plenty of positives if you understand the game..
For 20 minutes of the first half we were the better side. Then they woke up and dominated us. I'm not saying this is anyone's fault and certainly not going down the boring route of saying Monk is this or Laudrup is that, simple truth is we are/were nowhere near Chelsea's level. For 60 minutes of that match it was like an attack vs defence training session. From some of the posts here you'd think we were unlucky not to get something from the game when I think the truth is we were lucky they didn't put 6 past us. Either Chelsea are that good or we aren't quite as good as some think.
Falcao, Van Persie, Rooney, Blind, Di Maria, Herrera Jeez I think we got off lightly lads! That United side is shaping up to be a beast!
Of course we are not at the level of Chelsea and we will never get to that level and that goes for every other club who are not in the super clubs elite. These big clubs has to have an off day for any of us to have a chance but if they are on form then you wont win no matter how much we try. The first half we looked the better side but the second half then class took over but we never gave up trying and were rewarded with a late goal by shelvey....We are considered by many as one of the best outside the elite and that's pretty good for a club of our size....
Nice, very nice, I did say they would be the whipping boys again this season, 4-0 thumping, and long may it continue.................
Yes, 100%. Chelsea showed yesterday that they are on a different level to us. We are a mid table premier league club, no shame in that. If someone offered me a 10th place finish I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I don't get it. If we get offered X then I'd take it .... then what's the point of playing the games. What would we watch. What would we have to cheer about. Why would we need a manager, players and a ground. It's the risk of losing and the thrill of winning that makes the whole thing interesting and worthwhile.
I listened to most of the game on Radio 5. Pat Nevin,ex Chelsea stalwart, was extremely complimentary about how The Swans' dominated in the first 30 mins.,or so. Chelsea, according to him were "being outplayed". As the first half ended, just after the Chelsea equaliser,he said,"We will learn a great deal about Swansea City in the second half, and we'll also learn a lot about Garry Monk". Nevin was clearly expecting a different Chelsea in the second half,as was I. And so it turned out. So,what did he/we learn? If anything?
That it's unlikely a team that costs 10 times ours and managed by a multiple CL winner manager is going to lose to us? The second half had Mourinho's hand all over it. He knew exactly what to do and his players obliged.
They would win 9 times out of 10 but on the odd occasion nothing will go to plan for them and we take advantage of that...I was hoping that would be the case yesterday and for the first 20 minutes i thought we could get something here but it was not to be as chelsea upped the tempo in the second half and their class showed.
Fair enough it was against Chelsea. I only listened to it on radio as well but there seemed to be some similarities with Burnley game. We seemed to dominate, get a goal and sat back. The opposition make tactical change and we lost control of mid-field. Unfortunately we didn't have an answer either tactically or players on the bench. No disgrace against Chelsea, and if Gomis had taken his chance the game may have been different, but unlikely. However sitting back if we get a goal and playing counter-attack football will let teams with good strikers back into games. It is very early in the season and hopefully our squad and tactics will evolve.
It will now be all about seeing if we can bounce back against Southampton. GM says the defeat will not effect moral. I hope the players are all sitting down this morning and playing back a video of that match and analysing their defensive mistakes,so that they do not happen again. Time and again second half our defenders were caught ball watching whilst the Chelsea players were left unmarked, especially Costa. You can't give a player of that much quality so much room. Chelsea pressed us high up the field second half and we could not play the ball out of defence. Our midfield tired and left our back four cruelly exposed. The failure to bring in a quality defensive midfielder, with Britton out injured long term, may come back to haunt us. Surely we had other targets besides Stambouli? Both Ki and Shelvey are at their best going forward, and are ideally not defensive midfielders.
It;s about time now that fans start to realize that we will not win every game we play or we will have some very disappointed fans on here going over the top with what we should have done and what we should do It's just a game and you win some and you lose some . that's the way it is im afraid and that's the way it will always be..
