http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...ls-new-brand/story-22916614-detail/story.html Destroying hulls history and heritage, rebranding an iconic establishment. Awful. Terrible. Burn them at the stake! They're obviously not proper commited christians! It's worse than when sainsburys destroyed 150 years of history by removing the name "Jacksons" from our streets. Oh how I dispair!
the history books wont change! a new chapter is being written, thats all. a new chapter in the book that is called Hull Trinity Church
It's only history, you'd have to be backwards to look to the past when the future is all that matters. You can't change the past but the future is in your hands.
So essentially, they're finding a way to re-market the Church and make it more successful - all the while maintaining it's historic name of "Holy Trinity"... I think this sums up the view of the no camp fairly succinctly...
But the have changed the name, its called Holy Trinity now. They've dropped the "Church". Obviously think a shorter name is better! (Ok, that last bit was me being a twat) http://www.holytrinityhull.com/
That's not really comparable though is it? It is still a church. It would be the equivalent of rebranding Hull City AFC as Hull City, which frankly I don't think many people would have raised an eyebrow over, and the Allams wouldn't have had to approach the FA over.
So what you're saying re Holy Trinity is : the name doesn't matter because people still know what it is. Just have to say, I do enjoy conversing with you. Although you have a different view to me, you put it well and without resorting to ridiculous statements or name calling.
I don't like to argue. I'd much rather have a reasoned debate. We are all fairly entrenched, but this is going to pass one way or another - it doesn't help if we treat each other like Leeds fans I am not saying that the name doesn't matter though! I would still argue that the name hasn't changed. Deciding that the final part of the name does not need flagging up in publicity is a big step from a total name change. Imagine if the Bishop of Hull said, let's change the name of the church to St Stephen's Church. After all, there is a shopping centre by that name close by - and a crafty bit of joint advertising might get more bums on pews, and St Stephen is clearly a Christian, so is very relvent to the Church - St Stephen is also the patron saint of Serbia (thanks Wikipedia), so it will bring in investment from Belgrade. I would imagine the regular church goers would be unhappy at the loss of the historic name Holy Trinity, and would question why people in the central Balkans would want to fund a new font in Hull. They might even protest despite the fact that the Bishop had appointed the best Vicar the church had ever known. I don't want to push the analogy too far, but as I said before. Holy Trinity is a Church, you don't need to say Church for people to see what it does. The Holy Trinity name remains, however. Back to us, Allam could market us as Hull City, he could even alter the crest to remove AFC, no one would argue - it's happened plenty of times before. It's obvious what the club is. No one would turn up and ask why everyone wasn't playing rugby. "Holy Trinity" belongs to the big holy building on the market place in Hull, "Church" is shared by most Christian places of worship. "FC or AFC" is shared by most football clubs, "Hull City" is uniquely us; once you start to play with that part, you're playing with the identity of the club. That's where my line is.
I'll second that. Can't we have another forum or a sticky for the whole name change/CTWD debate so those of us interested in whats going on ON THE FIELD and with the players and manager don't have to wade through this crap day after day after day after day. I'm told the other forums such as CI are even more name change debate infested so I can't go there. Mods....can we get some rules established such as the "no politics" rule that would free us from this insanity.
Feel free to start a football thread. The name change is a prominent topic for the football club that clearly interests a lot of people. Once the initial reaction settles down again, it's possible we'll merge them into a sticky, but to do that now's not a realistic option as many threads are about specific elements.
