Let's not be too down-hearted, there's a long way to go yet. At least we went down fighting. With a bit more composure we would have strolled that game.
That was weird, usual away fans like to stand and the occasional away fans didn't like it, cue a bit of pushing and shoving (only handbags). What's everyone views on this, I personally like to stand but it does cause problems with the quieter/older fans
These days i like to sit but don't like to tell people not to stand up (I despise confrontation when i'm just trying to enjoy myself)) so the lower Rous works well for me. At away games it's different as you are usually talking about more "hard core" fans who will support the team more vocally and therefore tend to stand. I think you just have to put up with it.
Strange game all round really. I was happy to stand, but Mini Bloother is a bit on the short side. Normally I lift him so his feet are resting on the seat in front, but they seemed to be made of paper. But we managed ok. Part of the problem is reserved seating, which means everyone is spread out. With unreservedly the standees usually gather together. As for the game, a look at the stats and we were streets ahead...but we weren't. We weren't awful, but we weren't brilliant either. Charlton were well organised and, particularly in the first half, pushed us back and nullified the attacking full backs. Second half was better, but a goal looked unlikely. Thought Vydra looked well out of sorts and no surprise when Hoban went off at half time. And I'm beginning to think that Gomes is a bit of a liability.
Terrific support from you guys today, and extremely unlucky to come away with nothing. Good luck for the rest of the season.
The SSN reporter said that Gomes was lucky to stay on the field after bringing the player down for the penalty, and that we were woeful in the first half. I dozed off at half time, so the only other report was in injury time when he said that Dyer had a chance well saved.
You could argue that he did not prevent a clear goal scoring opportunity. The attacker was clear but not running at goal. But who knows what the refs see and why they give decisions. Another card happy ref yesterday who's performance was less than inspiring.
I had to stand on a seat for the whole match coz the bloke in front of me was well over 6 foot and his son stood on his seat which made him well over 6 foot as well! He can't help his height but I couldn't see a ruddy thing which as it turns out wouldn't have been such a bad thing! Dreadful game and we certainly weren't at our best .neither was the ref who obviously was paid off by the home side! Lol. With no outstanding performances and a few major disappointments it's best to just move on from this one and hope the trip to Blackpool will be more worthwhile! Mind you, pre match grub at borough market and Ellie brooks in the evening made it a generally good day!
Having seen the highlights on the FL show, I'm not sure which game the SSN reporter was watching. Profligate would be a better description than woeful and the incident for the penalty we weren't awarded, look at TDs right arm - the ref could have interpreted it as TD pulling Ben Haim on to him.
Spent the evening with Charlton fans at a BBQ - all very sympathetic to me and little YTY but clearly enjoying the result!. It was a penalty but so early on we should have been able to recover but didn't. Just the same at Norwich we could score in a month of Sundays. In my view Vydra isn't up to it/for it don't know which but it means anyone up front with him has to do the work of two and is therefore not on the ball for scoring goals either. Didn't see much difference between Beppe's team and this one and time will tell if the change of manager at this stage was a good idea - personally I have my doubts.
I guess we were unlucky but whilst their goalie made a couple of decent saves I am not sure we tested him enough and allowed Charlton to defend as we played the ball in front of them at times. 2nd half was better with more pace.
The 2nd half I thought we were ruddy excellent and it was remarkable how different a team we were when Paredes came on. Perhaps Hoban needs to rest up for a bit we was a bit panicky whenever the ball came to him and Paredes certainly owned that position when he came on One thing I didn't like was Deeny constantly nattering to the opposition players and fans, he should cut it out of his game concentrate on the matters in hand and perhaps distance himself from becoming a possible diva! A definite win on Tuesday if we play like the 2nd half in the 1st half
