I think that we are very lucky with our strong squad, minus a couple of good back up wingers, but i wanted to know who you consider not to match the standards of the championship or a similar reason ? Not that i really dislike him but i think Danny Seaborne would look prone to mistake in the championship. I might be proven wrong but thats what i think.
I'd have a question over Seabourne too, but hope I'm proved wrong (wouldn't call him dead wood though) Harding will be good bombing forward and maybe get caught out defensively, but sure he'll be ok. Gobern - looks like he's going anyway just wish Holmes and Connolly could be fit for a season as they would both rip it up in that league.
I'm hoping that Connolly could surprise us. He has real quality and has been out injured for long periods in the last couple of years. If his injury is really solved, it could be like getting a new player as we saw towards the end of the season. He came good at just the right time for us.
I'd rather not name names as we won't know for sure until the seasoon starts. I'll trust Adkis judgement, it's not nice letting players go on the cheap and seeing them do well for rivals. Unless it's Puncheon of course on his preictable trend of starting like a world beater and then doing nothing once his place is assured.
Dead wood in the squad (prepare for controversy); Connolly, Dean, Forecast, Forte, Gobern, Holmes, Jaidi, Mills, Puncheon and Seabourne. IMO all of them are either too old, too injury prone or too ****.
Jaidi worth keeping either as first choice or back up if we sign someone, but Connelly is well worth the risk. If fit, he's Championship material. The others would depend if we sign anyone, otherwise we would have no squad players.
Mills has got 2 seasons as a regular left back in the championship, he can do a job for us for sure. But I think we have 3 quality players in that role, Dickson could play on the left side of midfield? I have to say Tommy Foreskin is one of the worst players I've seen. He had 45 mins against Eastleigh and was utter ****e. get rid.
Tommy Fourpast is still under contract I believe. A 5 year one. Only way to get rid is to find a buyer, or to find a valid reason to terminate his contract (very hard).
When I start a game on football manager I immediately offload: Mills Seaborne Gobern McNish Puncheon Holmes Pulis Wotton Most of the aboe have already gone! I think Seaborne is ok as backup - but if we bring in another central defender that would leave Fonte and the newbie, with Jedi to wheel out against targetmen, and Martin as backup. Seaborne is probably then surplus to requirements - might be good to loan him out and see how he does / develops. Connolly did enough at the end of last season to earn a go, although I would like to see Doble + Holder-Spooner thrown on at the end of matches to see how they look. Holmes is never going to get ahead of Lallana so perhaps a loan move to get some fitness is a good idea for him too - he has quality but needs to get matches and maintain some fitness. Puncheon is poison and needs to go, preferably for a few 100k. Forecast I dont see the point in, and Gobern, McNish, Wotton, Pulis etc have since been released! If we can keep hold of Butterfield and Dickson I think they provide good cover for wing and fullback positions.
sorry jen but 53 has a hell of a point - when you play as little as he has then he may be considered dead wood as he does less than those that are playing badly. 1-3 month fitness loan move would do him great. but hey he may come back start of this year guns blazing so who knows? but up until now he has been dead wood.
he's put in fantastic performances everytime he has come on for us this season. if he stays injury-free he is certainly more than just another member of the squad.
Holmes was the business in the Championship before he got injured. Offers a great cross from the by-line which we don't really offer at the moment. He'd have been shot if he was a race-horse though.
