We bought him because it's far easier to make a song based on his name than Danny's.

I think we'll see him in the diamond and not the wide forward position. Either way really looking forward to finally seeing him!

I do think we overpaid for Lallana but I'm looking forward to seeing him play and link up with Coutinho & Sterling if they all play together. Think the interplay between them could become very good.

Could be very very good but worried about how open we would be.

I'm guessing that Sterling will be rested.

    Rodgers on protecting Sterling:

“He is a big talent. He broke into the team at 17. As a club, we have managed him quite well. But it is hard when you are such a good player and you keep performing and both your club and your country need you.

“When he gets to 28 and if he has got too many miles on the clock and he is burned out, that is something we will have to look at.

“You want that (astonishing form) to be consistent. You have to make sure he is fresh and well. He is a talented boy who will be managed as we feel is best."

Sounds as though he's explaining why Sterling isn't starting tomorrow even though on form he should be first name on the sheet. Don't disagree with the philosophy btw, just wish it didn't coincide with missing several first teamers through injury.

Luckily though, we now have options. Sturridge out and Sterling rested (on the bench just in case though) still leaves us with Markovic, Coutinho and Lallana who can come in to those spots. There's also Borini, Lambert and Suso on the bench which is still better than last year's options. We should be beating Villa...

Think he could do with a rest, especially after playing twice for England as well and pretty much every game back end of last year and during the WC.

Just a shame it comes at a time when Sturridge is out though so quite a big risk.

I'd be tempted to play him tomorrow and then rest him for the CL game which we should be able to win without him and then the cup game v Boro the following week.

Nice that we now have real depth to replace if we need to rest though.

See Yesil scored a goal for Under 21's tonight in his first game back from a long injury.

Hope to see him get a few games under his belt and maybe push on for a place in the squad or a loan to get some game time.

Can with a big reputation but injury has really hampered his development.

For the first time in over a decade we can truly say that we have options. We are not trying desperately to fill gaps. BR has the players with which to actively manage the situation. Who can tell me when we were last in a position to lose a player like Sturridge AND consider resting a player like Sterling? When was the last time we had the potential to change our midfield personnel and even shape without sacrificing quality?

I think we have enough quality to beat Villa but I know that I'm more confident that we can with all of the options that we have - despite injuries.

Absolutely, Dave. BR's doing a cracking job. <ok>

<laugh> Have some rep, my good man!

Any ideas on the line up, lads, with Sterling potentially rested and Studge out?

    Perhaps:

    ----------------Migs------------------
    Manquillo---Lovren---Sakho---Moreno
    ---------------Gerrard----------------
    ------Hendo-----------Coutinho-------
    Lallana------Balotelli-------Markovic---

I'd be fairly happy with that. <ok>
