I think you're ignoring the reality of the banks being reluctant to lend, prices going up, wholesale re-structuring of the NHS, defence, taxation, monetary policy/currency etc etc. It ain't gonna be without major problems, which will take a lot to overcome successfully.

It is NOT condescending to have a difference of opinion. As I have told you, but you seem unable to accept, the man is a very patriotic Scot. He has looked at the issue in some depth, and in his considered opinion, there are too many unanswered questions to vote Yes.

Please don't attempt to belittle my opinions, or my intellect. I know it seems to be an unfortunate trait of the vociferous yes campaign, but I assure you that, in this case, it won't work.

THis is not thought through Luke, perhaps just a throw away comment perhaps? No one in the YES has a rose tinted view we know there will be much work to make It work. However we can look back on a 1000 years of history all documanted, some parts better than others, and what it tells us is this.

If we want a fairer better society that reflects the aspirations of the Scottish people we certainly will not get that in the present set up. Set up? yes that is a good description of a Union that has pulled Hundreds of Millions of pounds from Scotland in the past 30 years, that dumps it's nuclear weapons 30 miles from our most populus city, that has raped Scottish Industry, and destroyed Scottish jobs by the thousands. That has the front to talk about shipyard jobs under threat from Independence when they all but destroyed Scottish shipbuilding. That has the temerity to send Gordon Brown to tell us about our pensions being unsafe. To right they are unsafe when Brown is about he destroyed my private pension for starters, in this case the departmant of pensions has already made it clear that pensions will be paid. In fact have to be paid by law.

These and a 1000 more years of lies is more than enough reason to want Independence. I haven't had my questions answered is not an intelligent response. There has been more information in theis referendum that any other in the history of the world FFS. Anybody who has unanswered questions is either lazy a liar, or just plain thick.

I can categorically assure you that my friend is far from lazy, or thick. I think it's highly insulting of you to consider otherwise. He has looked at the issue very seriously - we have discussed it. In his opinion, there are questions that are not answered, or are not answered honestly.

Luke what restructuring of the NHS? NHS Scotland is devolved. Banks reluctant to lend will be no different from the rUK. Defence we will save 100's of millions of pounds on the figures that are all on this thread. Taxation yes we want taxation powers that is one of the main points of Independence Luke. Currency will be sorted it IS in the interests of rUK as I keep having to say; Scotland is Englands biggest customer.

If you are going to come into this debate Luke you will need to be better equipped than spewing out a few gut feeling comments. We have spent the last 2 years eating and breathing this, as a result we are all very well informed.

    Not so Spurf.

Banks already indicated reluctance to lend. How will that affect Scottish home buyers? And businesses setting up/re-structuring after independence?

And retailers will put prices up - result= inflation.

What about the huge financial cost of having to re-structure public services against this background?

Where is the money coming from to help Scotland adjust without destabilising the economy?

Sorry NSIS I don't know the man and I don't wish to be offensive but the fact remains anybody IN Scotland who complains of unanswered questions is either a NO who doesn't like to admit it or lazy because they can't be arsed to find the answers (You have to look the media won't tell you) or simply thick.

Claiming that questions are unanswered is also a political stance taken by the NO camp. This falls apart under scruntiny as does the whole of the NO campaign.

Well, good luck to you. As I said, I don't oppose it in principle, just on pragmatic grounds.

I want independence for the North West of England too - we have led in most things since Victorian times, not least in sport.

No problem. He does live in Scotland, as I have said. I know from our discussions that he seriously looked at the Yes side of things. As he told me, his patriotic instinct was to vote Yes. However, on having looked at all credible evidence, he considered that, Salmond especially, was not believable. Again, too many unanswered, or not answered honestly, questions. Obviously, opinions will vary as to what people will accept as enough credible evidence. But, Nobody who knows the guy would doubt his patriotism, yet he still feels unable to vote Yes.

I have never seen a NO supporter back that claim up with a single fact. Not once in 2 years, just their opinions. One of our sayings from this campaign we can all have our own opinions but we can't have our own facts.

I'm not sure how marmalade, pink bathtubs, golf, Encyclopaedia Britannica, fax machines, Toad of Toad Hall, or the Bank of England helps your cause one bit <cool>

How come Peter Pan made the list but Harry Potter didn't?

Couldn't be because Harry Potter's English and JK Rowling supports the Union could it? <whistle>

Penicillin was an accidental discovery not an invention and Fleming was in St Mary's hospital Praed st London at the time. The English provided the means.
