I think he should get at least 5 years for being extremely reckless when he knew at least one other person was in the flat. This was not a case of accidently firing a gun whilst cleaning or handling it...this was a deliberate firing in a confined space, so someone was likely to die. If he isn't jailed, I can see her parents bringing a civil action (as was the case in the OJ case).

I would say that was fair. Almost impossible to prove murder and inconceivable that he would be found not guilty on all counts. If he was telling the truth and is sincerely repenting of his actions, then he should accept the fact that he should do some time.
