If Leicester sign Nugent and CMSthen waghorn might be a new NP target on loan perhaps? NP brought waghorn to Leicester in the first instance and didn't we try and sign him from sunlan before Leicester signed him? It'd give us 4 decent option up front, and Nige seems to like the tried and trusted route!
We wont loan Waghorn, I think we would sell if we sign our targets but he would cost around 1.5M after what we paid for him. But Sven has said he isnt for sale and he is part of his plans
I think we'll be looking a two keepers, a centre back and a winger now, I'm not sure we'll look to bring in another striker, though he'd obviously be a decent addition. It will be interesting to see what we do with our loan spots, I expect one to go to a keeper and one to be an attacking player from Man United.
Ok OLM, you've raised that before about an attacking player from Man U. Do you have some inside info you can share with us?
We don't need another striker. We paid good money for three in the past year. Be a lack of faith in them to go and buy another one.
Not really, squads are always evolving. As NP said always looking to improve.he's not a manager that hangs onto sentiment. If an addition fits into the budget, and improves the squad then you make the change. Simples!
There is quite literally a 0% chance of that happening. (And I hate using the phrase 'quite literally')
The budget is tight. We've spent a lot of money on our three strikers. The only reason to buy another one when the team is crying out for strengthening elsewhere is that you don't believe in your current players. Not a sensible message to send out and not one that NP has sent out. Besides, Waghorn isn't any better than what we have already.
I think Kiko Macheda might well go out on loan, but it will be to a Premier League club. Quite a few of their young lads are probably available on loan, Ajose and Morrison have been linked with loans to pretty much every club in the Championship.
There is of course a problem with the goalie situation. If we buy a goalkeeper, a happy dressing room it won't make if we then sign a Prem Goalie on loan that starts every week. Also, if we sign a loan goalie from the Prem, the parent Club will want him to play week-in-week-out (like Mannone, Stockdale and Forster for example). So what to do? Signing two loan goalies won't work for the same reason as above and signing two quality goalies permanently would be expensive. This is why I questioned the goodbye to Matt Duke. There we had a good Championship back-up goalie who was satisfied with a bit-part in role in the first team. I f we had kept him we could easily have offered Fulham a full season in the first team for Stockdale. Difficult situation, now.
Good post. I may be touching into Perry territory here but getting rid of Matt Duke did and does seem like NP is trying to eradicate every last piece of the previous regime. Was it really necessary?
I didn't say we 'needed' him, I said he might be a possibility due to Pearsons track record of signing players he's previously worked with. No harm in having more attacking threats in the building. Something we have often been starved of in the past.
I would not worry about the Keeper situation. Mark Oxley will be the No.2 goalie Ayala will be the other defender. Ive been told that RAVEL MORRISON (from man u) on a season long loan. he needs disaplin and structure to his wayward life off the pitch. NP is that man. Would you argue with him ? As for the other 2 and any future loan deals ??? well that will be interesting to find out when the time comes. Dont forget that Liam Cooper and a couple of others from the youth may show something in pre-season. Holahan and Emerton as an example.
I'm not sure Holohan is old enough, according to the Soccerbase site, he's only two days old. Gavin Holohan (Born 28 Jun, 2011) Midfielder for Hull City.
