I'd agree with that! another way to look at it would be win ratio, although i'm not suggesting thats the best way! then the list would look like this.

    Paisley 65.4
    dalglish 1st 60.9
    Rafa 56.29
    Rodgers 56
    Houllier 52.1
    Shankly 52
    Evans 51.8
    dalglish 2nd 47.3
    Souness 42
    Hodgson 41.9

By the way it was Hodgson who setup the Suarez deal, plus he wanted Sturridge not Carroll.

See he's also given another interesting interview today criticising England's handling of Sturridge and Woy's methods in general.

Ranking managers by trophies won is waaaaay too simplistic. It's as daft as saying Nicky Butt was a better player than Steven Gerrard because of all those baubles he's got.
To assess a manager's capabilities you have to take into account a number of factors including; where the club was when they took over and how far they led it; the players they had at their disposal; the funds to improve the team and make it their own, whether they are helped or hindered by the owners, etc.

BR has hardly had time to win anything yet, but he's already shown a degree of competence to drag us from 7th to 2nd. Whether he can go further remains to be seen, but attempting to judge him this early and putting him one above Hodgson is just wrong, imo.

  6. ***an won a treble in his only season and Rafa had already won a CL and FA Cup after two seasons. Kenny won a double too. <whistle>

PS...totally agree with what you're saying though <ok>

dont want to start picking lol, as i agree with the point made, but the only one out of them i would give credit to is rafa personally, the team that won the cl was not great, that was a minor miracle he managed it with the squad we had, funny he doesn't get more credit than he deserves, quite sad really.

***an had it setup for him really from previous managers, and kenny carried on with what was left as well.

Brod wasnt left a great squad, so it was always going to be a rebuilding project type thing, but coming 2nd and back in the cl is a great start to what hopefully will be a long rein as manager of our club.

was the double as player manager? cant remember if it was, think so.

  8. It was as player-manager. He took over in 85 and won the double in the 85-86 season. He didn't retire as a player until 1990 but hardly played in the last three seasons. He played 21 games in 85-86 and 18 in 86-87.

sorry saint but LFC is ALL about winning things. ergo those who have are better than those who have not... to rate rodgers anywhere near the top when he's done nothing yet (as in won anything) just aint right... Its like this. hodgosn will ALWAYS be bottom of the list but rodgers can move up fast even if he wins a league cup imo.

2nd these days and a league cup is better than 2nds and a laeuge cup in the 90s.... its better than anything souness ever did

AND he rebuilt his side, won league in 1988 and 1990 and fa cup in 1989... and league cup in 2011.... has to be either 3rd or fourth on the list of managers...

BUT... it's entirely opinion on ***an as we all know that it was 1984 and Heysel that he retired after and who knows what esle he might have won there after.

1984 euro cup and in final next year?

I put paisely ahead of shanks.

but for me cups matter thats why rafa would be 5th and houllier 6th. Houllier won more cups but rafa made crazy history for us.

Rodgers can acheive but f me. you can't go putting him up there until he puts himself up there. Just lets say I think he'll climb the list, i'm hoping we win something his year!

  11. I never said he didn't or that he wasn't greate ither <laugh>

Kenny gave us one of the best attacking sides we've seen after he bought Beardsley, Aldridge and Barnes too.
