I don't think the legality of the referendum has been widely debated. Certainly, there are many Scots who live in England who would want a vote. It currently has its own parliament and has a lot of devolved powers but no control over fiscal policy which is the big prize. But unfortunately the Nationalists are pursuing a campaign of personal insults and anti Westminster elitist rhetoric which is rather getting in the way of the issues that affect the voters. :emoticon-0113-sleep

If ever there was a reason to vote Yes, it's seeing "the cat" at his hypocritical best.

Is it just me or has the BBC became very partisan in the past week. I was listening to Radio 4 on the way to work this morning, and English some business man was sympathetic to the idea of Scottish Indy and the presenter was being very tetchy and kept talking over him going on about "uncertainty". It's a false argument, the future is uncertain by its very nature.

Then Farage came on and produced the trump card. What is the point of independence when you want to sign up to the EU state?

Therein lies the purple skinned kipper.

How can you have an independent country with no central bank?

    Separatists can't answer this (seriously)

That's not quite correct, the Scottish parliament has had the ability to raise or lower taxes for some time. I think it can be altered by small percentage points of what it is in the rest of the country. They just haven't done so.

It just means that you are the mercy of the bank who you've decided to peg your currency to. It doesn't mean that you're not independent. All states have dependency on one another in these globalised times.

It's 99% certain that Scotland will have a currency union with the rUK. If not, the £ will plummet, there will be a flight of capital to Europe, and rUK will be het for the £1.4trn debt. It's in every one of the UK's 60m citizens to do a deal.

I am English and from Banbury, thanks very much.

All nation states are dependent on each other. The US is dependent on exports to the EU, Canada and China otherwise they can't pay the debts they've ran up.

The UK is (over) dependent on the ECB vain efforts to revive the Eurozone otherwise we'll be back in recession.

Panama runs a very successful economy on the back of the US$. You could argue that because they don't have a central bank, it means that they need to be very frugal when it comes to spending and they need to keep large reserves, and that in turn buffets them from Global financial storms. Obviously though, if the US$ ever gets devalued (which it probably will in the next 10 years) then Panama could find their investments worth less than what they were worth, but that will happen to states/people who don't use the US$.

    Therein lies the diseased testicle.

Oh Hungary, the picture of fiscal prudence.

The nation of anti-Semitism, the only nation from the old eastern bloc to go backwards since the fall of the USSR.

Their Government recently passed major legislation outlawing opposition to its policies.

Yes, let's aspire to be like Hungary.

What a rancid skidmark you are, Aldo.

Can it be done? Will taxes have to rise?

You are one sad little tit son, seriously, I must admit I thought for a while you were at it and simply pretending to be a hateful wee spastic. <doh>

Go and get yourself a life instead of pretending to count posts on a football forum.
