Clearly they had their heart set on getting 910.80 out of people. I can only assume its to make it less convenient for anyone paying in cash

What do people think will be outcome of Pistorius trial. I think having a judge rather than a jury favours Pistorius because there will be an emphasis on proof rather than what any reasonable human being would think. He was a bomb waiting to go off...showed all the signs of being a dangerous man. He was ready to kill any burglar that came near him...whether she was his target is possible rather than probable. I bet he will be found innocent of premeditated murder and will get 5-10 years for manslaughter or culpable homicide (though there are other charges that could add time on).

As a side issue...anyone think a poor black man found with a dead girlfriend suffering multiple gun shot wounds would would get a 6 month trial?

In the USA he would be shot dead by the first policeman on the scene for "looking at me funny".

Pistorius will get off. I hope not but the SA police managed to bugger up enough evidence to enable this.

As I said I think he is a dangerous man (a UXB if you like), but hard to say he deliberately wanted to kill his girlfriend, though he definitely intended to kill someone. It all boils down to whether he seriously thought he was in danger or just determined to kill anyone who took him on (like a burglar). He had a history of letting off firearms and talking aggressively about what he'd do to a burglar. He can't be let off completely, hence I think he'll get culpable homicide.

Think a judge making a verdict is far better than a jury. At the very least, a jury should have judges to guide the jury on points of law, etc.

Oop - just checking in quickly. Last night's performance by madam was absolutely astonishing - people there who should know better, comparing her to Kate Bush and Radiohead. Which was nice.

There may well be some big news soon, but in the meantime, the EP will be available for pre-order next Wednesday (Not606 world exclusive there!)

Not surprised at all Pistorius was cleared of murder. Very difficult to prove he meant to kill his girlfriend.

Judge disagreed. There's no way that can be proved.

I think firing 4-5 shots through a door was a clue. No one can know his mind, but I think he showed clear intent to kill. However, as I said, I think culpable homicide was always the most likely outcome. His girlfriend died because she was going out with a man with an unhealthy attitude to guns...his past history suggested that one day he would hurt someone.

Listened to the news this evening, and something clicked at last. Pistorious had been charged and trialled for intently killing his girlfriend [so the media had us believe], not just for intently killing someone unnamed. A law professor in South Africa made the point that the judgement is arguable in that in South Africa a person only has to show intent in killing someone, and it is not important who that person is. Clearly, Pistorious shot to injure or kill the person behind the toilet door in order to defend himself. Therefore, the decision of the court of not guilty to murder is a debatable one.

I agree with your last point as well.
