Reevers happy to pilage from both sides The Duke of Buccluch and his family are descended from Border Reevers who were very successful robbers and fighters. They built what is now the A76 and extended their area of interest by offering 'protection' just like the mafia in modern USA. Today Buccluch is still the largest private landowner in Britain recieving last year nearly a quarter of a million £s in benefits. Now that is what I call a benefit scrounger. Typical of the elite running the UK. No offence to your girlfriend NSIS
Culturally the peoples of the British isles are very similar. There is a lot more cultural similarity between the English and the Scottish than there are between either and the main land countries. Yes, each nation has their own heritage too- but the fact is we're very similar groups of people in many regards. Take a photo of any small village across the British isles and you'd know at a glance it is British not Continental... Not always as easy to say "English, Welsh, or Scottish, even Irish". We have our differences- but we're more "the same" than we are different.
NSIS I have repudiated these figures many times with evidence, this is the establishment line, the IFS is NO WAY a neutral body it is a CONSERVATIVE with capitol letters body often quoted by the FAIR BBC as an independent source. You say these are OPEC figures please give me a link. Not that all this matters one jot to the idea of Scottish Independence which is about Democracy not OIL not THE POUND, not Alec Salmond, not the EU, it is about Scotland choosing it's own government.
In the event of dissolution of the UK one of three things is going to happen. 1. Scotland will suffer economically and in world standing, while rUK will remain respectably successful - causing Scots to resent rUK citizens and YES voters. 2. rUK will suffer economically and in world standing, while Scotland will become respectably successful - causing rUK citizens to resent Scots for jumping ship and causing rUK downturn. 3. Both new countries will suffer economically and in world standing - causing rUK citizens to resent Scots for jumping ship and causing rUK downturn, and Scots to resent YES voters. I can't see how any of the above situations will help to perpetuate the cohesive British identity, which some claim will remain post Scots independence.
Here is the link. It's from the Torygraph, but quotes OPEC directly. As far as I can see, the IFS is an independent body. But, of course, it seems that anybody who produces anything that rains on the Yes campaign parade is establishment, or conservative. In fact, two of the IFS original members were one Conservative and one Labour. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...ays-North-Sea-oil-output-to-hit-new-lows.html They are independent figures - far more independent than anything produced by the SNP, masquerading as fact. The simple fact is that a large proportion of the SNP's economic projections are based on a wildly optimistic forecast of both oil production and remaining economically recoverable resources. At the last figures I saw, cost of producing a barrel in many fields was $50+ and rising sharply. The average, over $35 and rising. And the CEBR think matters could be even worse... http://www.cebr.com/reports/scottish-government-deficit-assessment/
The burden of proof falls upon the person making the claim. I'm not in either camp, so I have no claims to prove. You've specifically said that Scotland being an independent nation would be better and more democratic than being in the union, yet still want to join another union. I fail to see how this makes any sense, especially as Scotland's influence on the world stage, especially with the UN and EU that you've mentioned, would actually diminish. That's assuming that the country would even gain re-entry into the EU in the first place. I've noticed that the Yes campaign has adopted one of the more unpleasant habits of religious and political fanatics in it's responses to questions. Anyone that disagrees or points out inconsistencies in anything that's being claimed becomes One Of Them, an enemy and is lumped in with the heathens. It's quite disturbing and doesn't contribute to a healthy debate. The same appears to be true of any celebrity that aligns themselves with the No campaign, as they suffer abuse and personal attacks.
You only seem to be noticing what suits your argument PNP. I'll tell you what come to Scotland and youcan see for your self. The point of this thread from my point of view is to redress the balance in a tiny way in view of the great Establishment propaganda machine. You have already swallowed too much for anything I have to say to carry any weight. I cannot reason with people who think the Telegraph or BBC or frankly any other of the media are any kind of reliable sourse to use. I am trying to redress that balance. People are arguing about the Office of Fiscal Studies and suggesting they are neutral. Yeah about as neuatral as the CBI that lies through uts teeth about its membership and then you quote THEIR crap back at me. It sounds harsh and unfair BECAUSE you have, and are being fed lie after lie after lie. This is a REBELLION do not expect the UK to play fair.
BTW PNP how can Scotlands voice in the world bodies diminish when it has NONE atm. I am beginning to hear someone who regrets the passing of the Empire and is trying to hold on to the power that the UK once was. The sooner the UK comes to terms with it's true position in the world which is somewhere on a par with Germany France and Spain the better. Then it can stop entering illeagal wars, stop being the USA's hand maiden and concentrate on being a modern European state.
Ten minutes ago on CNN; "RBS will move its offices and outlets to England should the yes vote win." Answers please Spurf and DevAdvocate.
The institute of fiscal studies, whatever your view of their neutrality, is far more likely to produce an unbiased account of the true economic realities than the SNP are. It seems to me that the SNP has a far bigger axe to grind than any the IFS may have.
I'm only noticing what suits my argument?! You openly admit to only accepting information from one side of it! I don't even have an argument. My sole point is that I haven't seen anything to support the claims of the Yes camp. Why would I believe it's a good thing if they can't even answer the most simple questions about what will happen with any authority? Illegal wars started by two blokes from Edinburgh? Scotland already has a voice on the international stage, you just don't like what it's saying. The idea that someone like Salmond will be any different, and let's not pretend that he won't be leading an independent Scotland for a while, is frankly laughable.
I don't have any answer to that, i'm not plugged into the Matrix. Maybe you should investigate and report your findings back here
DevAdvocate, to answer your link request it was originally a chant heard at St James Park home of Newcastle Utd "I like to go a wandering along the cliffs of Dover, and if I see a Mackem c*nt I'll push the bastard over." But it was stolen by the Scots along with porridge, haggis, and pipes from England.
All new material right there mate, highly original stuff....or it would be if I had not heard it a million times before along with "see you Jimmy", "hoots Mon" and "och aye the noo". In summary, you'll have to do better than that.
