If the Jocks vote "Yes" to Independence next week, I have two pertinent constitutional points to make on not606: 1. What happens when their abundant natural resources of Iron Bru and Deep Fried Mars Bars run out? Will they want to come back? 2. I will miss Forest Hill Billy's posts, as he will no longer be allowed to contribute on here without showing his visa first
If I were Jockish, I would vote YES. Anything that protects and isolates an identity can only be a good thing. I only wish the Wessex movement would get a move on and strike a blow for independence. Angles and Jutes (the undoubted master races) must survive for the sake of civilisation.
I'm for keeping the Union together " Better Together" But if they get it good luck, and if it goes tits up dont come crying to us!!
Of course it will go tits up. Have you ever been to a Scottish wedding? The great Scottish Industries of Whiskey, Oil and Big Issue selling have been in decline for years now, if they want to go, let them. Does this mean the English can have their park benches back?
My view exactly. If they vote to go their own seperate way, good luck to them. I think it is wrong that UK politicians like G.Brown are today bending over backwards offering the Scots bribes to stay in the Union. Can we have a whip round on here to quickly get FHB a new English passport
Having recently visited Edinburgh, I was surprised by how may AYE stickers and posters were about, yet the people I spoke to were all in favour of the NAW vote. It's going to be close, but in the end I think the Jocks will bottle it and stick with the union. Whatever happens, though, I shall be investing in some property on the Leith harbour.
A horrible amount of anti English racism on open display, too. Isn't it strange that the English are the only race you are allowed to be openly racist about
Too true, Vol. There has always been a bitterness and resentment towards the greatness of the English race. I don't mind, though, for I am content to bathe in the glow of my superiority. To be English is all that matters.
My family shall be voting no. The oil argument which has swayed many of the casual voters is nothing short of a myth, but sadly as the weeks have gone by it's swayed continuously to ''yes''. And Alex Salmond is a dick head which doesn't help.
The scots are no mugs as much as they say they hate the English they know its is a good tit to suck on. As if the Spanish are going to let them in the EU anyway, Whose going to pay the set up costs? whose going to finance all this? The Scottish banks are s**te and are hugely responsible for causing all this financial meltdown anyway. As Mark said in trainspotting "Its shate being Scottish, we are the lowest of the low, the scum of the earth, the most wrethed, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat onto civilisation. Some hate the English, I don't- they're just *ankers We on the other hand are colonised by *ankers, we can't even get colonised by a decent culture, we are ruled by effete assholes its a shate state of affairs Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world aint gonna mke any ***king difference" Sums it all up for me. And as for Billy Connolly, ......
We need FHB's input on this thread...where is he ..please don't tell me he has choked on a scotch egg....
I can be racist about anybody I want, and so can you.(Oh, I just saw the word "openly") By the way some of the things the English say about the Welsh aren't too clever. Or the Irish. Or the French......etc... If Scotland does say Yes (which I hope it doesn't), it will be David Cameron's fault for refusing the 3rd option of devo-max in the referendum. Now his government are saying that even if there's a No vote Scotland will get devo-max anyway! It was thought at the time that Cameron had out-maneouvred Salmond, and ensured that there would be a No vote.
If I were Scottish I'd vote YES. In fact if I were anything over than from London or the South East, where sadly being Working Class in probably 90% of the cases is actually being Lower Middle Class now, then I would be desperate to escape Westminster and the City. What scares me the most is the promise of a Conservative majority if the Scottish do go.
Right-wing politics are very unpopular in Scotland these days, although that could change in the future. Sadly Mrs T. never achieved iconic status north of the border, and the self-styled "Son-of Thatcher" won't either. New Labour was never popular, Tony Blair and Milord Mandy were seen as a continuation of the previous government. Ed Milliband = waste of space, so basically Scotland has become a different country from England politically, which I think is a bloody shame. The No campaign has become so messy that I now fear that the Yes vote will win the day.
Oh what an irony, when you look at the number of Scots working in London in very senior positions in finance, the media, and politics. Who can Scotland is "unrepresented" when they have a population of 5m, compared to 60m for England. Gordon Brown is Scottish and the English people certainly never voted for him to be their PM. Fred Goodwin was Scottish and English savers never asked him to bust their savings. It cuts both ways. I fervently hope the Scots vote 'yes' as true independence (using the Euro, or the groat ?) will end the Scots cringeworthy resentment towards the English.
Not a myth, a fact. I have been to Scotland many times over the years (including a lovely trip to St Andrews), anti English sentiment is rife in Fife. A more high profile example was Andy Murray's comment on the World Cup....asked who he wanted to win it, he replied "anyone but England". The English are the only people in this world you are allowed to openly hate.
