http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/movie-liverpool-fcs-champions-league-7168939 A movie based on Liverpool FC 's 2005 Champions League triumph is to be released worldwide. The club and film production company Stray Dog Films today announced details of the film ahead of tomorrow's ninth anniversary of the Istanbul final. Liverpool came from behind to draw 3-3 with AC Milan before then beating them on penalties in one of the Reds' greatest nights . The British film 'One Night in Istanbul' is based on Liverpool playwright Nicky Allt's hit stage play, which remains the Empire Theatre's fastest selling show. The movie, which is to be released in September, is being described as "a fictional football-focused crime-comedy" pitching the Champions League final as its backdrop. The film follows two down-on-their-luck Liverpool cabbies, Tommy and Gerry, who strike an unusual deal with a local gangster to take their sons on a trip of a lifetime, to watch their beloved team play in the Champions League final in Istanbul. But big trouble awaits them in the form of two ruthless crooks and bag of stolen cash. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1800351/ Released tomorrow.
Football films are usually poor but I might watch this at some point. The best I've seen on the subject post match is the documentary One Night In May. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50lZxQRFqY4 http://www.frontlinefootball.com/Football-Documentaries/liverpool-one-night-in-may/
Well we know the result of the game so it depends how much other suspense, if any, they can get in there.
oh look scousers get involed in crime... how original... are there muppets in this one too? they had kermit double as a villian... perhaps kewell could be a master criminal in this, his actions on the night were criminal after all why is our greatest club achievement of the 21st century (and it is) being linked to a movie who's theme is crime... hmmmmm
Gotta love stereotypes ....... haven't we ??? The first time my son's girlfriend came to stay [she's his wife now and not from Liverpool] her Dad told her not to leave the car unattended
The film is supposed to be a comedy about to mad keen LFC fans in their 50's who have followed LFC all over Europe and want to go to Istanbul with their grown up sons as a bit of a right of passage for them. The trouble is they can't afford it so have the bright idea of lending the money from a local gangster type money lender, knowing they can't afford to pay him back he gets them involved in mischief on his behalf whilst they are in Turkey. I have seen odd preview clips and it will either be alright or crap. Its not going to win an Oscar, but like one of my old girlfriends "it might go down well in Liverpool"
