Official Match Thread: vs Aston Villa (H)

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by astro, Sep 4, 2014.

  1. I heard on the radio this morning that he's not in their squad. Or was they just meaning the match day squad on Wednesday night?

all i am saying is i saw directly that the guy played those england games, usually fully then was like a limp fish the weekend after... it was too much last year and my point is i am looking forward to seeing gerrard able to play properly this year as he's rested. i hope this clarifys my view.

Indeed, we all went a bit loopy in the break.

I'm actually more wary of this match than I was of the Spurs match. Still think we have enough to win.

And yes, it will be interesting that for once we've a rested Gerrard rather than a knackered one post international break.

So are we saying Lallana in for Sturridge or Lambert?

I'm still unsure on Balotelli but it would make sense at home to play our diamond formation so Balotelli up top by himself,

    -------Coutinho-------
    Sterling-------Lallana
    --------Balotelli--------

  11. Unless you're planning on Coutinho holding, dropping Hendo and playing a Borini Lambert partnership in front of Balotelli, that's not out diamond formation! <doh>

Don't think Couthino deserves to start yet, Markovic has performed better so far.

Based on his last two performance, I don't think Allen will be dropped (or deserves to be..)
As long as Hendo is OK and assuming we go to a 4-3-3 the the side will be the same as Spurs with Ford coming in for Sturridge...
Don't think Rodgers as the balls to drop Gerrard, yet...
Ford maybe next in-line to get a game, Lallana may not be "match" fit to start..
Agree, Markovic could get in ahead of Ford, in the games I've seen so far, he appears to offer a bit more assistance to his FB and his pace will help against Villa's speed merchants!

    ----------------Gerrard-----------
    ----- Hendo------------Allen-----
    ---Ford ---------------- Sterling---
    -------------Balotelli --------------

Or my new patented 4-1-2-2-1 formation!

Don't think it's a question of 'balls'. Gerrard is the best starter for that position that we have in the squad. BR's problem is who and how to groom a replacement.

    Mingolet
    Manquillo Skertl Lovren Moreno
    Gerrard
    Allen Can
    Sterling Balotelli Markovic

I think coutinho travelled with barzil which is a long way so we need to check that one out. Markovic also travelled but is a more seasoned international

I think 4-3-3 is one way to go.

I can see skertl coming back in as rodgers might well do that.

I feel we need to seriously assess Henderson and mind him for the midweek game.

I'd aslo be looking to sub sterling on 60mins
